MCHS defeats Destrehan in four games

Morgan City High School knocked off Destrehan 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-11, 25-23) in nondistrict volleyball action in Morgan City Monday.
Morgan City had 44 kills, nine solo blocks and three block assists.
Sh’diamond Holly led Morgan City with 16 kills, one dig, eight solo blocks and one block assist. Other top contributors included Abby Reynaud, five kills, 34 assists, four digs and one block assist; Karmen Peterson, 10 kills, one dig and one solo block; Katelyn Gautreaux, one ace and 11 digs; Mckenzi Smith, one kill, one ace, six digs and one block assist; Paige Loftin, five kills and two digs; Faith Crappell, five kills and one dig; and Hannah Gros, three aces and one dig.
In junior varsity action, Morgan City won 2-1 (18-25, 25-19, 15-9).
Morgan City had 13 aces and three solo blocks.
Smith led Morgan City with six assists, four aces and one dig. Other top contributors included Jolee Nini, four assists, five aces and one dig; Nia Lightfoot, four kills, one ace, one dig and three solo blocks; Peterson, two kills, one ace and three digs; and Hallie Blanchard, three kills and three digs.
On Saturday, Morgan City defeated Central Lafourche (25-16, 29-27, 25-14).
Morgan City had 10 solo blocks.
Holly led Morgan City with 17 kills, one dig and five solo blocks. Other top contributors included Reynaud, three kills, 34 assists, one dig, one solo block and one block assist; Gautreaux, one ace and nine digs; Peterson, four kills and three solo blocks; and Gros, two aces.
Morgan City (9-17) will return to action Thursday when it hosts Vandebilt Catholic in District 8-III play.
Berwick finishes 3-2
in tourney
The Berwick Lady Panthers finished the weekend 3-2 in Baton Rouge High’s volleyball tournament.
Berwick fell to Woodlawn of Baton Rouge 2-1 (22-25, 25-22, 15-17), beat East St. John 2-0 (25-21, 25-12), beat Loranger 2-0 (25-6, 25-10), beat Terrebonne 2-1 (25-22, 15-25, 15-12) and fell to McGehee 2-0 (25-10, 25-15)
Against Woodlawn, Mary Jordan Melancon had three kills, nine assists and 12 digs. Other top contributors included Sydney Aucoin, 11 kills, one dig and one solo block; Maci Broussard, three aces and 14 digs; Lauren Skinner, 10 kills and three digs; Brittany Roberie, 17 digs; Jordan Lipari, four kills and five digs; and Rosalyn Gros, six digs.
Against East St. John, Melancon led Berwick with two kills, four assists, one ace and five digs. Other top contributors included Roberie, 15 digs; Gros, nine digs; Aucoin, three kills and five digs; Morgan Toups, four kills; and Broussard, two aces and two digs;
Against Loranger, Berwick had seven aces.

Against McGehee, Melancon led the squad with two kills, two assists and five digs. Other top contributors included Roberie, one ace and eight digs; Aucoin, six kills and two digs; Gros, seven digs; Dugas, two assists and one ace; and Lipari, one ace and two digs.
On Thursday against Morgan City, Berwick fell 3-1 (14-25, 25-18, 18-25, 15-25).
Berwick had 113 digs.

Other top contributors included Roberie, 34 digs; Lipari, six kills and 11 digs; Broussard, one ace and 16 digs; Gros, one assist and 12 digs; Skinner, eight kills, one assist and three digs; Arnold, two kills and five digs; and Hover, six digs.
Berwick (11-15) will return to action today when it continues District 8-III play at Vandebilt Catholic.
Central Catholic defeats Covenant Christian
Central Catholic remained perfect in District 6-V play Thursday with a 3-0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-8) win at Covenant Christian.
The victory sets up a Thursday showdown with rival Houma Christian, who also is undefeated in league play, for the district title. That match will be played in Morgan City.
In last Thursday’s match, Central Catholic recorded 12 aces.
Hallie Autin led Central Catholic with five kills, two aces, six digs and one solo block. Other top contributors included Katie Hoffpauir, 13 assists, one ace and three digs; Taylor Picou, four kills, three assists, two aces and four digs; Yani Johnson, nine kills, one assist and one solo block; Quincee Wiggins, three kills, three aces and four digs; Brooke Lipari, two aces and four digs; Emma Aucoin, two aces and two digs; and Rebecca David, one kill and two solo blocks.
Central Catholic played at Christian Life Academy Monday. No score or stats were available.
The Lady Eagles will return to the court today when they travel to face St. John of Plaquemine.
Patterson finishes 1-3 in New Iberia
Patterson finished 1-3 at Highland Baptist’s tournament Saturday.
The Lumberjills fell to Lafayette, North Vermilion and First Baptist Christian but defeated Franklin.
Patterson fell to Lafayette 2-0 (16-25, 25-27), it lost to North Vermilion 2-0 (25-11, 25-20), the Lumberjills dropped a 2-0 (25-12, 25-13) decision to First Baptist Christian and it defeated Franklin 2-0 (25-13, 25-19).
No individual statistics were available from the contests.
Patterson (6-13) will return to action today when it travels to Crowley to face Notre Dame in District 2-IV action.
