MCHS rallies for 5-4 victory against Vandebilt Catholic

The Morgan City Lady Tigers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Vandebilt Catholic, 5-4, in Morgan City Tuesday.
Trailing 4-3 heading into the top of the frame, the Tigers scored runs via a Dwanna LeBeau RBI-single and another on a fielder’s choice by Scottie Metrejean on a ground out to shortstop to drive in the winning run.
With the win, Morgan City (13-5) kept its district title hopes alive as Morgan City and Assumption each are 8-1 in district. Morgan City, which run-ruled Assumption, 10-0, in Morgan City last month, will travel to Napoleonville Thursday to take on Assumption in a 4 p.m. contest.
In Tuesday’s win, Morgan City took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, while Morgan City scored another run in the bottom of the second for a 3-0 lead.
Vandebilt rallied in the next two innings, scoring two runs in the top of the third and another in the fourth to tie the game at 3.
Vandebilt took its lone lead of the game in the top of the fifth.
Morgan City outhit Vandebilt Catholic, 7-5.
LeBeau led Morgan City with a 2-for-4 performance with a home run, three RBIs and a run. Other top contributors included Vincent, 2-for-3, a run; Gabrielle Thibodeaux, 1-for-3, an RBI; Kennedy Hebert, 1-for-3, a double, two runs; and Metrejean, an RBI.
Central Catholic run-rules Lafayette Christian
The Central Catholic Lady Eagles run-ruled Lafayette Christian, 14-4, in District 7-1A action in Bayou Vista Tuesday.
Central Catholic scored in every inning except the fourth, plating five runs in the first, two runs each in the second and third innings and three in the fifth.
Lafayette Christian scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game via the mercy rule.
Central Catholic outhit Lafayette Christian, 18-8.
Kaleigh Navarro led Central Catholic with a 3-for-4 performance with an RBI and three runs. Other top contributors included Emma Aucoin, 3-for-4, an RBI, two runs; Kelly Russo, 3-for-4, three runs; Brooke Lipari, 2-for-3, a double, a triple, two RBIs, two runs; Ava Nicar, 2-for-3, two RBIs, a run; Taylor Picou, 1-for-1, a triple, three RBIs, two runs; Jordan Morvant, 1-for-2, a double, three RBIs; and Hallie Autin, 1-for-3, a double, a run.
Sarah Thomas earned the win for Central Catholic. In five innings, she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Central Catholic (13-11 overall, 8-4 in district) will return to action Thursday when it travels to face Hanson Memorial in a district contest. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
Kaplan edges Berwick
Berwick High School gave Kaplan a game but couldn’t pull off the upset on the road in District 8-3A action Tuesday, falling 4-3.
While Kaplan took a 1-0 lead in the first and extended it to 2-0 after four innings, each team scored a run in the fifth inning for a 3-1 Kaplan advantage.
While Berwick tied the game at 3 in the top of the sixth, Kaplan scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
Kaplan outhit Berwick 8-4. Each team committed four errors.
Jaci Arnold led Berwick with a 2-for-3 performance with a run.
Jordan Lipari suffered the loss. In seven innings, she surrendered four runs on eight hits.
Berwick (9-11, 5-4) will return to action today when it hosts Ellender in a nondistrict contest. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.

E.D. White defeated Patterson, 17-0, in five innings in District 8-3A action at Patterson Tuesday.
Tapanga Haven suffered the loss for Patterson.
No other individual statistics were available.
Patterson (3-13 overall, 2-9 in district) will return to action Thursday when it travels to take on Erath in a district contest. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.
