Patterson Lumberjacks clinch share of league title; MCHS in contention in 4A

Staff Report

The Patterson High School boys’ basketball team clinched at least a share of the District 8-3A title Friday with a win against Erath, while Morgan City remains in contention for the District 7-4A crown after routing Vandebilt Catholic Friday.
Patterson’s 72-36 win against Erath, coupled with E.D. White defeating North Vermilion Friday gave Patterson a two-game district lead over the nearest competition with two games remaining. The Lumberjacks, who currently sit at 9-1 in district, can win the crown outright by winning at least one of their games this week or via a loss each by Berwick, North Vermilion and E.D. White this week.
Mathematically, Berwick, North Vermilion and E.D. White still are not out of the race for a share of the league title as each are 7-3 but all three need to win their district games this week and have Patterson lose both of their games to have a shot.
Things will become much clearer after Tuesday’s action when Patterson travels to North Vermilion and E.D. White plays at Berwick.
In District 7-4A, the champion or co-champion will be decided Tuesday. Morgan City, Ellender and Assumption each 7-2 league marks. Friday, Morgan City routed Vandebilt Catholic in Morgan City, 73-45.
Morgan City will travel to face Assumption Tuesday, while Ellender will close district play at Vandebilt Catholic. The winner of Morgan City/Assumption contest is guaranteed at least a share of the district crown. The victor of that game wins the title outright if Ellender falls to Vandebilt Catholic. The victor and Ellender will share the title if the Patriots defeat Vandebilt Catholic.
