Skipper's routs TrimCo, 12-2
Skipper’s Sporting Goods run-ruled TrimCo Millwork and Supply, 12-2, in six innings in opening day Swampland baseball action Monday at Patterson.
While the game was tied at 2 through four innings, Skipper’s Sporting Goods (Morgan City) erupted for nine runs in the top of the fifth and added another in the top of the sixth.
The game was called after the bottom of the sixth.
Skipper’s outhit TrimCo (Patterson), 13-2.
Ross Albritton led Skipper’s with a 3-for-4 performance with two doubles and two RBIs, while Morrquise Charles was 1-for-3 with three RBIs.
Logan Tingle earned the complete-game victory, fanning eight.
Joel Singleton suffered the loss for TrimCo. In four innings, he surrendered three runs — two earned — on four hits with two walks, one hit batter and two strikeouts.
“The game was 2-2 when we took Joel out,” TrimCo coach Ryan Jensen said. “He was pitching well, and we could have left him in and the score is a lot different, but that’s not what our summer is about. We have to see what other guys can do and figure out who can handle things when it comes (time) in the spring. We are lacking experience, so we will experiment with things this summer and, hopefully, find some answers and have guys more prepared for the spring.”
Offensively, Matt Dardeau led TrimCo with a 1-for-3 performance with two RBIs and a stolen base.
TrimCo (0-1) and Skipper’s (1-0) will play again today at Tiger Diamond. Junior varsity action is set for a 5 p.m. start, while varsity will follow at 7 p.m.
Crawdaddy’s defeats
Taco Bell
Crawdaddy’s Seafood (Houma Christian) pulled away from Taco Bell (Berwick) in the later innings en route to a 10-4 victory in Swampland baseball action in Berwick Monday.
With Crawdaddy’s ahead 5-4 after four innings, the visitors added a run in the top of the fifth and four in the top of the seventh for the final margin.
Crawdaddy’s scored a run in the top of the third and four in the top of the fourth for a 5-0 advantage.
Taco Bell responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut its deficit to 5-4.
Crawdaddy’s outhit Berwick, 8-6.
D.J. Robichaux suffered the loss for Taco Bell. In 3.1 innings, he surrendered four runs — all earned — on three hits with two walks, four hit batters and three strikeouts.
Offensively, Bradley Gray led Taco Bell with a 2-for-4 performance, while Collin Kulka was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Other top hitters included Austin Price, 1-for-3 with a double; Grant Oubre, 1-for-2, an RBI and a run; and Collin Kulka, 1-for-2, an RBI.
In junior varsity action, Taco Bell defeated Crawdaddy’s, 6-2.
All of the scoring occurred in the third inning as Crawdaddy’s opened the inning with two runs, while Taco Bell followed with six runs in the bottom of the frame.
Brett Williams earned the win in relief. In two innings, he surrendered one hit, walked two, hit one batter and fanned three.
Rustin Ratcliff started for Taco Bell. In two innings, he surrendered two unearned runs, no hits, walked four and fanned four.
Offensively, Adam Askew finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run for Taco Bell. Other top offensive contributors included Shayne Berger, 1-for-1, a double and a run; Seth Giroir, 1-for-2, a double, two RBIs and a run; Seth Giroir, 1-for-2, two RBIs and a run; Rustin Ratcliff, 1-for-2, two RBIs; and Barret Hover, 1-for-2, an RBI and a run.
Taco Bell (0-1) will return to action today when it travels to face Crawdaddy’s. Junior varsity action is set for a 3:30 p.m. start with varsity to follow at 5:30 p.m.
Halimar to play today
Halimar Shipyard (Central Catholic) will open its Swampland baseball season today when it hosts BCG Services (Covenant Christian) today in Amelia. Junior varsity action is set for a 5 p.m. start, with varsity to follow at 7 p.m.
While Halimar was scheduled to play Monday against BCG Services, that contest was cancelled, and will be made up, if necessary.
