Staff Report

Taco Bell (Berwick High) defeated Robichaux Ford (Vandebilt Catholic) 6-2 in Swampland League Baseball action Tuesday in Berwick.
Taco Bell scored in every inning except the fourth and seventh. The home team took a 2-0 lead after two innings, and while Robichaux Ford scored a run in the top of the third, Taco Bell came back with two more in the bottom of the third for a 4-1 advantage.
Robichaux Ford pushed across a run in the fourth to cut its deficit to 4-2 before Taco Bell countered with single runs in the fifth and sixth for the final margin.
“I was again proud of the way the players came to the park ready to play,” Taco Bell head coach Mike Thomas said. “They are playing the game the right way. They are competing and playing fundamental baseball.”
Taco Bell outhit Robichaux Ford 12-5 in the win.
“Our hitters were aggressive and did a good job of barreling balls up,” Thomas said.
On the mound, Austin Price earned the win. In 5.1 innings, he surrendered two runs — one earned — on five hits with four strikeouts.
Nick Mayon recorded the save. In 1.2 innings he surrendered one walk and fanned two.
“Austin Price did an excellent job of throwing strikes and staying ahead of the hitters,” Thomas said. “Nick Mayon came in and did his job to get the save.”
Offensively, Bradley Gray and Ty Duthu led Taco Bell’s offense as each finished 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
Other top offensive contributors included Cameron Wiley, 1-for-1, a double; Logan Angeron, 2-for-4, an RBI; Cody Roberie, 2-for-4; and Andrew Askew, 1-for-3, an RBI.
In junior varsity action, Taco Bell and Robichaux Ford played to a 2-2 tie.

Taco Bell (3-1) will return to action today when it makes the short trip to Morgan City to face Skipper’s Sporting Goods (Morgan City) in a makeup game from Monday. Junior varsity is set for a 5 p.m. start with varsity to follow at 7 p.m.
Skipper’s Sporting Goods 10, BCG Services 6
Skipper’s Sporting Goods used a five-run fifth to overtake BCG Services (Covenant Christian) en route to a 10-6 victory in Morgan City Tuesday.
Trailing 5-4 heading to the bottom of the fifth, Skipper’s exploded for five runs in the frame for a 9-5 lead.
Each team scored a run in the sixth.
Early on, BCG Services took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, while Skipper’s moved ahead temporarily in the top of the third with a four-run frame.

Junior varsity play will begin at 5 p.m. with varsity to follow at 7 p.m.
Braves 9,
Cardinal Lumber 2
Cardinal Lumber (Patterson High) fell 9-2 to the Braves (H.L. Bourgeois) on the road Tuesday.
Cardinal Lumber never led as the Braves took a 3-0 lead after an inning, and while Cardinal Lumber countered with a run in the top of the second, the Braves came back with four runs in the bottom of the third for a 7-1 advantage.
Cardinal Lumber scored a run in the top of the sixth, while the Braves added two more in the bottom of the frame.
Cardinal Lumber coach Ryan Jensen said defensively, the day was “terrible.”
“We didn’t help Brennan out at all,” he said. “They kept hitting ground balls, and we kept kicking it around. They scored three in the first with only (one) ball being hit out of the infield. You can’t win at any level like that.”
Cardinal Lumber committed five errors in the contest.
Offensively, things weren’t much better as Patterson was limited to just two hits.
“Offensively, we never made an adjustment to their pitcher,” Jensen said. “He threw a ton of off-speed stuff, and we just kept popping it up. We haven’t been able to practice much with the weather, and it showed. That’s not an excuse for our mistakes, though.”
Bryce Beaubouef led Patterson with a 1-for-3 performance with a triple, while Gouaux and John Brooks each recorded RBIs in the win. Jamey Fabre had the team’s other hit as he finished 1-for-3.
On the mound, Gouaux suffered the loss. In five innings, he surrendered seven runs, although just two were earned.
Cardinal Lumber (1-2) will return to action today when it hosts BCG Services in a makeup game from Monday. Junior varsity action is set for a 5 p.m. start with varsity to follow at 7 p.m.
