‘Run with the Fuzz’ events set for Oct. 4
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Department Benevolent Association presents the second annual Run with the Fuzz 5K and Children’s 1-mile fun run.
The race is set for Oct. 4 at Berwick High School. The children take the course for a one-mile fun run at 8 a.m. The 5K will follow.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Department Benevolent Association was established in 1992 after Hurricane Andrew struck the parish. Many employees of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff Office were in need of aid, so employees, neighboring departments and communities came together to answer that call for help and raised the needed funds.
The association was born from the idea of helping each other in times of emergencies or disasters.
Proceeds from the Run with the Fuzz will help the benevolent association continue that mission.
Run with the Fuzz participants do not have to run. Walkers are welcome.
Parents are encouraged to sign up children for the one-mile children’s run. Sign up on active.com, stop by the sheriff’s office in Franklin or Morgan City, or print a registration form from the race’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/RunWithTheFuzz5kFunRunWalk.
The event also will feature a jump castle, food and door prizes that have been donated by local businesses.
“The heartwarming support our community showed at last year’s event means a lot to our deputies,” Benevolent Association President and Race Director Jenifer McDill said in a release. “Knowing that their personal needs will be taken care of in the event of an emergency allows our officers to focus on protecting our community.”
