Belleview golfers defend St. Mary Cup crown

The Belleview golf club defended its title against St. Mary’s golf club of Berwick in the fourth annual Ryder Cup format style championship.
The team, consisting of 16 golfers, played great golf over the 2 days of competition and defeated the St. Mary team handily.
The format consisted of eight two-man teams on Saturday playing 18 holes of best ball competition and 18 holes of alternating shot. At the end of day one with 16 matches being played, Belleview led 12-4 and held a comfortable lead going in to the 16 singles matches on Sunday.
Needing only four points on Sunday to claim their second title in a row, the team wasted no time as they sent Brandon Burdett and Garrett Burns out in the first group.
The two young guns easily defeated their opponents and got two points on the board early. Eddie Bodin, Chase Arboneaux and David Naquin also went out early and won their matches clinching the win for the Belleview.
Others winning their singles matches were: Ty Burdett, Jamon Vaccerrella, Mike Kapp, Dale Rogers and Nick Molaison. Bobby McDoanld earned a half point by tying his match. In all, The Belleview scored 10½ points out of a possible 16 singles points as well as scoring 12 of a possible 16 points on Saturday to claim the title by a total score of 22½ to 9½ .
In the best ball and alternating shot matches played on Saturday Ty Burdett, Brandon Burdett, Eddie Bodin, Brad Rodriguez, Mike Kapp, Bobby McDonald, David Naquin, Garrett Burns, Bret Senette, Nick Molaison and Jamon Vaccarrella all won both their matches setting up the big lead for Sunday.
Team members included: Darrell Johnson, David Arboneaux, Kelly Louvierre, Chase Arboneaux, Bobby McDonald, Mike Kapp, Ty Burdett, David Naquin, Eddie Bodin, Brad Rodriguez, Brandon Burdett, Garrett Burns, Brett Senette, Nick Molaison, Dale Rogers and Jamon Vaccerrella.
Upcoming events at The Belleview will be the Club Championship Oct. 29-30. On Nov. 19 the club will host a 1 Man Scramble tournament to help benefit the MGA. For more information on the tournament or rental of the building call the clubhouse at 828-2572.
