Broussard-Harris opens 2014 season

Opening Day Ceremonies for the third season of Broussard-Harris Summer Baseball League resembled the markings of a festive event Saturday at the Broussard-Harris Park.
Local dignitaries were on hand to toss out the ceremonial first pitch along with the sounds of DJ Fab while a total of six teams, including two T-Ball clubs, welcomed the opportunity to play before a huge crowd of local baseball fans.
The 2014 Broussard-Harris Opening Day ceremonies got underway with a wholesome prayer from Rev. Allen Randle along with the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of the National Anthem before local politicians, former players along with a former umpire tossed out the ceremonial pitches while the six teams were being photographed all before the first pitch to mark the opening day event.
On hand to toss out the ceremonial first pitch were: Mayor Raymond Harris; Albert Foulcard; Jackie Robertson, Curtis Sigue; Tony Thomas; Eugene Foulcard; Rev. Allen Randle; Lester Levine and Wayne Foster.
“We have a nice turnout,” Broussard-Harris director Rodney Monette said. “The opening ceremonies were really nice and we are going to have a real good season.”
This year’s league will have six teams, including four teams of players between the ages of 8 and 12 along with two teams between the ages of 3 and 7.
Making up the Broussard-Harris Little League teams are: St. Mary Sugar Co-Op; Mike’s Car Wash; Buckner Buccaneers and Harris Tax Service.
The two T-Ball teams in this year’s B-H Summer League program are: Jeffery Beverly Rex Sox along with Will’s Barber Shop Cubs.
The Broussard-Harris Summer League season opened on Saturday, June 7 and will continue through Tuesday, July 8 with games set for every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. A total of three games will be played every Tuesday and Thursday night with a T-Ball game played between the Little League games each night.
