Hanson Tigers drop 1-0 loss to Vermilion Catholic Eagles
Hanson Memorial came up on the short end of a heart-breaking 1-0 District 7-1A loss to the Vermilion Catholic Eagles Tuesday at Amar Lancon Field.
Vermilion Catholic pitcher Gage Trahan outdueled Hanson Memorial’s John Guienze for the mound victory.
Trahan earned the win after pitching seven complete innings, not allowing a run while giving up five hits with 10 strikeouts and no walks. Trahan faced 27 batters over seven innings with 87 total pitches with 61 strikes and 26 balls.
Guienze was equally as impressive as Trahan, throwing seven complete frames. He surrendered only one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Guienze worked seven complete innings, throwing 79 pitches including 54 strikes and 25 balls while facing 26 batters.
VC produced the game-winning run in the third inning when Emile Trahan singled and later scored on Cade Boudreaux’s sacrifice bunt of which he raced from first to third and tagged a vacated plate, giving the Eagles the 1-0 lead.
John Guienze led the Tigers at the plate with a 3 for 3 outing with a double and pair of singles. Chase Mensman was 1 for 3 while Luke Rodriguez went 1 for 2 for Hanson.
Emile Trahan, Hunter Fritz and Gage Trahan all went 1 for 3 for the Eagles with Griffin Vicknair collecting one hit in two plate appearances. Emile Trahan scored the game-winning run on his single in the third frame.
The Hanson Memorial Tigers will travel to Abbeville to battle Vermilion Catholic on Thursday in District 7-1A competition.
