The Morgan City 10-year-old All-Stars and Patterson 10-year-old All-Stars were both eliminated in extra innings from the Louisiana Dixie Youth AAA Minors North Regional Monday.
Morgan City lost to Franklinton 11-8 in seven innings, and Patterson lost to South Sabine, 8-7 in nine innings
The tournament was moved to the Bayou Vista Community Center from Caffery Park in Franklin due to rain and inclement field conditions.
Dylan Cornes pitched three innings giving up seven hits, eight runs and one walk. Cornes struck out four batters. Caleb Menina came on in relief of Cornes pitching four innings while giving up five hits. Menina gave up three runs, struck out four batters, and did not walk anyone.
Leading hitters for Morgan City were Jacob Blum who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Drew Rock was 1-for-3. Andy Gros was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Mekhi Branton went 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Ethan Blanchard was 1-for-1. Morgan City made four errors.
“It was a good game. We played late the night before, and they did a good job bouncing back,” Morgan City 10-year-old All-Stars Coach Jeff Blum said.
The team got some early momentum in the game, but just made too many errors, Blum said. “A few errors hurt us bad,” he said.
Franklinton swung the bat well, but Morgan City did not hit the ball as well as the team had the rest of the tournament, Blum said.
Morgan City started the tournament with a 12-0 win against Moss Bluff in four innings Saturday before falling to the Shreveport Americans 18-7 Sunday.
Patterson 10-year-old All-Stars Coach Nate Samuels said the game with South Sabine was back and forth. Patterson was down 7-5 in the fourth inning and came back to the game 7-7 in the fifth inning. With two outs and the winning run on third base in the seventh inning, Morgan City tried to drop a squeeze bunt, but it did not work, Samuels said.
After Patterson fell 17-2 in three innings to the Shreveport Americans in its opener, the team came back to hold off Moss Bluff 11- 10 in an elimination contest.
Samuels said his team bounced back from a tough first game of the tournament and “went out with a fight.”
