The Morgan City 11s won the District 3 championship after earning consecutive wins against Franklin Sunday. In the first game, Morgan City won 10-4, while in the finale, they won 7-3. MC 11s win district title

The Morgan City 11s won the District 3 Tournament at Peltier Park in Thibodaux this weekend, knocking off undefeated Franklin twice Sunday for the title.
After falling to Franklin 9-7 Saturday, Morgan City won two straight against their in-parish foes Sunday, knocking off Franklin 10-4 in the first game and 7-3 in the second.
In the finale, coach Beau Theriot said Matthew Mire nearly tossed a complete game, throwing 6.2 innings.
Theriot said he was proud of his squad’s showing in the tournament, noting they were dedicated, overcame adversity and didn’t quit.
Morgan City now will advance to the Minor’s 11s State Tournament, which will be held in Ponchatoula beginning July 11.
In district, Morgan City beat Thibodaux 6-2 Thursday to begin its tournament play.
In its second game of the tournament Saturday against Franklin, the team was in a hole as it was down 8-3 in the fifth inning but rallied with four runs in its fifth inning at bat to trim its deficit to 8-7.
Franklin scored a run in the top of the sixth inning, and Morgan City could not counter in its final at bat.
While he had no individual stats from the tournament, Theriot said that Gunnar Theriot led the Morgan City hitters with around a .700 to .750 batting average, while Grant Cheramie did a good job stepping up offensively off the bench.
“Other than that, all the kids did well,” Coach Theriot said.
Other Morgan City pitchers used in the tournament for Morgan City were Zach Bennett, Brett Morell and Theriot.
The Morgan City 9-year-old All-Stars also were in action last week in the District 3 Tournament in Thibodaux. No scores or statistics were available today.
