Morgan City 9s, 11s fall in district openers

Staff Report

The Morgan City 9- and 11-year-old All-Stars had rough outings at their respective district tournaments in Thibodaux Thursday.
The Morgan City 9s fell 16-6 in five innings to Franklin, while the Morgan City 11s fell 13-3 in four innings to Thibodaux.
The Morgan City 9s will return to action Saturday when they face Thibodaux in a 10 a.m. matchup.
If Morgan City loses the contest, their postseason will end.
However, if they win, and Franklin loses tonight to Thibodaux, all three teams in the tournament will have one loss apiece.
In that case, a drawing will be held for a bye to advance to the title game at 2 p.m. Sunday, while the other two teams will meet in an elimination game at noon Sunday. The winner of the noon contest will advance to the 2 p.m. title game.
If one team is eliminated after the three-game, round-robin format, then the two remaining teams will play for the championship at noon Sunday, and the 2 p.m. contest will be used as an if-necessary game.
In the 11-year-old bracket, Morgan City will need to win its next two against Thibodaux in the best-two-out-of-three series to keep its postseason alive.
Game 2 between Morgan City and Thibodaux will be today at 8 p.m., while if Morgan City wins, the teams will play a third game Saturday at noon.
