Patterson 10U All-Stars are state runner-up

Staff Report

The Patterson 10U All-Stars made an impressive run through the Louisiana Babe Ruth State Tournament en route to a runner-up finish Sunday in Brusly.
After opening its tournament action with a 19-0 win against Westside Friday, Patterson fell Friday evening to St. Charles, 3-0.
However, Patterson reeled off four consecutive wins — the last giving St. Charles their first loss of the tournament — to force a winner-take-all contest Sunday.
In their final game of the tournament, Patterson fell 6-3
“It was awesome to see this group of kids rally together and win four consecutive ball games under very adverse circumstances,” Patterson assistant coach Patrick Skiles said.
Skiles called the team “an incredible group of kids” and said they displayed “great character and leadership” throughout their tournament run.
The top-three finish was the second in as many years for Patterson, who also finished third at last year’s 10U state tournament.
The team has qualified for the Babe Ruth Southwest Regional, which will be held July 13-17 in Magnolia, Arkansas.
While the tournament was pushed back a day due to a rainout Thursday, Patterson rolled past Westside 19-0 in Friday’s first game.
Hilary Pillaro earned the win. In three innings, she had six strikeouts.
Offensively, Kamille Lightfoot, Pillaro and Addie Lovell each scored three runs. Ana Vaccarella and Hailey Skiles each scored two runs, while Mikah Ortiz, Kaylee Vining, Laila Dugar, Bryleigh DeHart, Rylie Chassion and Olivia Black each scored a run.
In game two, Patterson fell to St. Charles 3-0. Patterson had just one hit as Lovell finished 1-for-2.
Pillaro suffered the loss. In five innings, she had 10 strikeouts.
Patterson rebounded Saturday in the elimination bracket with a 20-7 win against Kentwood.
Vaccarella earned the win as she fanned two in four innings of work.
Offensively, Skiles, DeHart and Vaccarella each scored three runs, while Lightfoot, Lovell, Dugar, Vining and Maggie Lemoine each scored two runs, and Chassion had a run.
Patterson continued its journey through the elimination bracket with a 14-6 victory against Iberville.
Vaccarella earned the win. In five innings, she fanned six.
Offensively, Skiles, Dehart, Vaccarella, Lightfoot, Dugar, Lemoine and Black all scored two runs.
Patterson concluded their action in the tournament Saturday with a 9-5 victory against Amite.
Vaccarella earned the win as she fanned five in four innings of work.
Offensively, Lovell scored two runs, while Skiles, DeHart, Vaccarella, Dugar, Vining, Lemoine and Chassion each scored a run.
With the win, Patterson advanced to the championship. However, because St. Charles was undefeated, Patterson had to defeat them twice to win the title.
In the first game, Patterson won 6-5.
Pillaro earned the win. In three innings, she fanned four.
Vaccarella earned the save in the win, tossing two innings.
Offensively, Lightfoot scored two runs, while Vaccarella, Lovell, Dehart and Lemoine each scored a run.
In the final game of the tournament, however, Patterson fell 6-3.
Skiles, Dehart and Vining each scored a run.
Vaccarella suffered the loss. In four innings, she fanned four.
“To have a group of kids from a small area such as Patterson playing against much larger organizations, and to not only compete with those organizations but to beat those organizations says a lot about our kids,” Coach Skiles said.
