Patterson falls 6-0 in weather-delayed contest

The Patterson Softball All-Stars dropped their first game of the Babe Ruth 10U World Series this morning, 6-0, to Pitt County, North Carolina.
While the game originally began Monday afternoon, it was dogged by weather, prompting delays in the second inning with Patterson trailing 1-0 and again in the top of the fourth with Patterson trailing 3-0 after the dirt infield had become saturated to the point of puddles forming.
While event organizers had hoped to restart action Monday night no earlier than 7 p.m. EDT, play never resumed and picked up this morning. The game concluded at about 8 a.m. EDT.
Games are limited to one hour and 15 minutes and one hour of game time had elapsed during Monday’s action.
In the top of the fourth inning, Pitt County added three more runs this morning and kept Patterson off the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame for the win.
With the loss, Patterson falls to the elimination portion of the World Series bracket. They were to play again today at 3:30 p.m., EDT, against the loser of the Audubon All-Stars, who fell 10-0 today to Oviedo. With another loss, Patterson is out of the tournament.
Pitt County, the defending 10U World Series champions, advanced in the winner’s bracket where it will face Oviedo today.
In the Patterson-Pitt County contest, Pitt County scored one run in the top of the first, two more in the top of the third and three more in the top of the fourth.
Pitt County outhit Patterson 6-3 and got on base via eight walks.
Meanwhile, Pitt County pitcher Brianna Bowers limited Patterson to three hits, walked two and fanned seven in four innings of work.
Offensively, Riley Trueblood led Pitt County with a 1-for-2 performance with a double and two RBIs. Other top offensive contributors included Makiya Andrews, 1-for-1, an RBI and three runs; Katelyn Corbett, 1-for-3, two RBIs; Jadyn Smith, 1-for-1, two runs; Bowers and Shea Jenkins, each 1-for-2; and Olivia Hadnott, a run.
Emily Lipari suffered the loss for Patterson. In four innings, she surrendered six earned runs on six hits with eight walks and three strikeouts.
Offensively, Charlotte Callais led Patterson with a 1-for-1 performance, while Amaya Williams and Kamille Lightfoot each were 1-for-2.
