St. Mary Central 12U team finishes regional play 2-2

The St. Mary Central 12U All-Stars fell 13-1 to Union Parish Monday in the Louisiana Dixie Youth North Regional Tournament in Winnsboro. The loss ended St. Mary Central’s season.
Union jumped out to a 6-1 lead before exploding for seven runs in the fourth inning to secure the win.
St. Mary Central was plagued by six turnovers.
“I don’t want to take anything away from Union Parish because they did a good job hitting the ball, but we had our chances to make plays and we just didn’t,” St. Mary Central Coach John Menard said.
St. Mary Central used three pitchers in the game and starter Grant Hebert was saddled with the loss. He threw three innings allowing three hits and six runs (one earned) with a strikeout.
Carter Williams came on in relief. He surrendered three hits for six runs (five earned) and two walks. Ryan Dominque tossed an inning allowing three hits and a run scored.
St. Mary Central managed just one hit in the game.
“We hit the ball hard but right at people,” Menard said. “We had our chances but we just didn’t execute.”
Tanner Simmons had the lone hit in the game, a single.
St. Mary Central finished the regional with a 2-2 record.
“We had a tough regional but I thought we did well,” Menard said. “I’m just really proud of the kids. They worked really hard this all-star season but we also had a lot of fun, I enjoyed every minute.
“It was really a pleasure coaching this group.”
St. Mary Central was the District 3 runner-up this season.
