St. Mary wins 24-0 in 5 innings

St. Mary Pony 13 All-Stars continued their dominance in the Pony 13 & Under Super Region Tournament with a 24-0 win against Broussard-Youngsville Youth Association in five innings Wednesday.
Luke Felterman and Seth Giroir combined to pitch a no hitter, with Felterman earning the win.
In three innings, Felterman faced the minimum and fanned four batters from BYYA.
While one BYYA player reached base during Felterman’s outing via a walk, he was eliminated from the base path on a double play.
Giroir pitched the final two innings, fanning four and walking two.
After BYYA went down in order in the top of the first inning, the first 11 batters for St. Mary reached base in the bottom of the first as St. Mary raced out to a 9-0 lead.
St. Mary doubled its scoring output in the second inning with nine more runs for an 18-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, St. Mary finished off its scoring with six runs.
The game was called in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule.
All nine starters for St. Mary scored at least one run and recorded at least one RBI.
With the win, St. Mary now will face St. Landry today at 8 p.m. St. Landry also is undefeated in tournament play after winning its tournament opener and receiving a second-round bye.
The winner of today’s contest will advance to Friday’s 8 p.m. title game, while the loser will have to win an elimination game Friday at 6 p.m. before playing again at 8 p.m.
Because the tournament is double elimination, if the winner out of the loser’s bracket defeats its undefeated opponent out of the winner’s bracket, the two teams will meet again in an if-necessary game Saturday at 6 p.m.
The run-rule was the second for St. Mary as well as its second shutout in as many games after blanking CAYSI, a Carencro-based team, 15-0, in its tournament opener Monday.
In two games, St. Mary has outscored its opponents 38-0.
