CENTERVILLE — The facts are simple: There were 722 LearnPads planned for St. Mary classrooms in the coming school year prior to Thursday’s meeting of the parish school board.
Seventeen third-, fourth- and fifth-grade contestants from seven parish schools competed March 31 in the 10th annual Multiplication Learning Wrap-ups contest. The contest consists of wrapping a string around a math multiplication key. The students who quickly complete the facts correctly win. St. Mary Parish public schools will be closed Friday due to the potential for icy roads and frozen bridges.
Berwick town workers lay the foundation for an extension of the boardwalk near the Everett S. Berry Memorial Lighthouse Park this morning. Construction began Jan. 13 and is expected to be completed three weeks from today. With freezing temperatures and precipitation forecasted, there is a possibility of icing on the bridges.

Preparations are ongoing for winter weather due to visit St. Mary Parish tonight and into Friday that has the potential to bring rain and a “wintery mix” of sleet or snow.
