2 accused of killing man missing since March
CENTERVILLE, La. (AP) — Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft says two Leesville residents have been booked with second-degree murder in the death of a Rosepine man reported missing in March.
The Beauregard Daily News (http://bit.ly/1r42FFO ) reports that 24-year-old Jose Israel Ayala III and 22-year-old Cassandra Ward remained in jail Monday. They were arrested Thursday, after deputies found remains believed to be those of James Stephens.
Bond was set at $200,000 for Ward and $250,000 for Ayala. It was not clear whether either has an attorney.
The sheriff said in a news release that deputies and the Polly Klaas Foundation Search Team and its cadaver dogs found the remains on Louisiana Highway 1211 in Vernon Parish. He did not give any further details.
Craft says the investigation is continuing.
