Driver license status available online

BATON ROUGE — The Office of Motor Vehicles has now provided the public with the ability to check their driver reinstatement status online at expresslane.org. The online capability is designed to help reduce wait times in field offices as employees can sometimes spend up to an hour researching and explaining to a customer what their issues are and how to resolve them.
This free service allows licensed drivers to learn if there are any issues with their driver status prior to completing the renewal process. For example, this may include insurance violations, suspensions or other issues that would prevent someone from renewing their driver’s license. If problems are identified, the system will direct the customer on what steps must be taken to clear up the issues. If no problems are identified, the system will indicate “you have no outstanding issues with the Office of Motor Vehicles.”
To access the system, visit expresslane.org and navigate to the center of the page. Under “Driver Services,” click on “Driver’s License Status Inquiry.” This will direct you to the instruction page, which includes a security disclaimer. Once you accept by clicking “Continue,” you will be directed to enter your driver’s license number and the last 4 digits of your Social Security number. Upon clicking “Continue,” your Driver Reinstatement Status report will be generated.
“We continue to look for ways that the Office of Motor Vehicles can improve customer service for the citizens of Louisiana,” said Stephen Campbell, Office of Motor Vehicles commissioner. “Our goal is to provide as many OMV services online so that our customers can handle OMV business at their convenience. Additionally, we want to provide as much information to citizens regarding their driver status before they come to our offices only to learn of issues which must be resolved prior to renewal.”
“I have challenged the staff at the Office of Motor Vehicles to continue to develop ways to improve customer service,” said Col. Mike Edmonson, deputy secretary, Department of Public Safety. “We must think outside the box and continue to implement ideas that increase efficiency in our field offices, expand online services and educate the public on ways to minimize the stressors that sometimes accompany OMV related services.”
