Lafayette officer stable following shooting
LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — A Lafayette police officer is in stable condition following an overnight shooting.
The shooting took place around 11:30 p.m. Thursday at the Willow Apartments.
Police say the officer was searching an apartment for 23-year-old Chase Chaisson, of Lafayette, a suspect in another shooting that took place Thursday morning when the Chaisson and the officer exchanged gunfire.
Although the Chaisson was wounded, police say he fled to a nearby truck stop, forced his way into a pickup and ordered the driver to take him away from the scene. Chaisson was arrested following a chase into Crowley.
The officer, whose name has not been released, is a 3 1/2 veteran of the police force.
Once out of the hospital, Chaisson faces several charges including attempted first-degree murder of a police officer.
