Police: Man booked after trying to flee from officers

A 46-year-old Morgan City man was arrested after fleeing the scene of a trespassing and for resisting arrest, said Morgan City Police Chief James Blair in a news release.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Ted A. Smith, 46, of Dawn Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:31 a.m. Tuesday on the charges of flight from an officer, stop sign violation, resisting an officer, and criminal trespassing.
An officer responded to a local business on Everett Street in regard to Smith going onto the property which he had previously been removed and was advised not to return. When the officer arrived, Smith was located inside a parked vehicle.
The officer made contact with Smith when Smith began shouting at the officer, then Smith sped away from the officer, police said. The officer pursued Smith and Smith was observed running several stop signs.
A short time later, officers were able to stop Smith near the intersection of Freret Street and Federal Avenue. Officers ordered Smith out of the vehicle and onto the ground when, according to reports, Smith refused to obey the officers.
Smith was taken to the ground, handcuffed and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and jailed.
—Vicente Sepulvedia, 30, of Roderick Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:32 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of stop sign violation, no driver’s license and no vehicle insurance.
An officer patrolling the area of Victor II Boulevard and La. 70 observed a vehicle run a red light at the intersection. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was identified as Sepulvedia.
An investigation revealed that Sepulvedia did not have a driver’s license nor did the vehicle have proof of insurance. Sepulvedia was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and jailed.
—Heidi M. Songe, 39, of Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:16 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance law (drug-free zone).
The Morgan City Police Department Narcotics Division executed a search warrant on the Third Street residence of Songe. Upon doing so, Songe was located inside the residence and detained.
A search of the residence was conducted when investigators located suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Reports indicate that the residence was within close proximity of a local elementary school which violates the uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws.
Songe was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where she was booked and jailed.
—Earl J. Mire, 48, of Glenwood Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:02 a.m. today on the charges of speeding and driving while intoxicated (second offense).
An officer patrolling the area of Glenwood Street observed a vehicle speeding 40 mph in a 20 mph zone. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was identified as Mire.
While speaking with Mire, reports indicate it was believed that Mire had been drinking and appeared to be intoxicated. Mire was transported to the Morgan City Police Department for further testing. Mire submitted to the Intoxilyzer 5000 and registered a blood alcohol concentration of .156 grams percent.
Mire was booked into the Morgan City Police Department Jail and was incarcerated.
—Ronald J. Winslow, 25, of Terrebonne Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:05 a.m. today on warrants for criminal neglect of family (three counts). An officer responded to a local business on Marguerite Street in regard to a disturbance.
The officer arrived and made contact with Winslow. A warrants check revealed that the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office held several arrest warrants on Winslow.
Winslow was placed under arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 36 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrest in east St. Mary Parish:
—Nicholas Grimmett, 34, of Lake End Park in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:14 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of domestic abuse battery.
A deputy responded to a call from Teche Regional Medical Center regarding a report of a possible incident of domestic abuse.
The deputy collected statements indicating that Grimmett struck a female victim in the head at a residence in Bayou Vista. With the assistance of Morgan City police, Grimmett was located at a home on Aucoin Street. Following the investigation, Grimmett was jailed with no bail set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Jerry Lebouef, 43, of the 100 block of Dexter Court in Chauvin, was arrested at 10:29 a.m. Tuesday on the charges of speeding and driving under suspension. Lebouef posted bail.
—Kristy Ribardi, 37, of the 100 block of Home Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday on a state police warrant charging her with unauthorized use of an access card. Ribardi posted bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Charles Merritt, 35, of the 1400 block of Live Oak Street in Patterson, was arrested at 9:02 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging him with failure to pay sex offender fee and failure to notify officer of address change and on a Franklin police warrant. No bail is set yet.
—Terrance Benjamin, 27, of the 600 block of Park Street in Patterson, was arrested at 12:47 p.m. Tuesday on a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant charging him with failure to appear for criminal neglect of family and failure to appear for possession of marijuana. Benjamin was jailed with no bail set yet.
