CCHS falls at Vermilion Catholic, 29-22

With virtually no running game and having thrown five interceptions, Central Catholic still had a chance late in Friday’s contest against No. 6-ranked Vermilion Catholic.

The Central Catholic Eagles, like the rest of the prep football teams across the state, were allowed to put on full gear for the first time this fall Thursday as teams continue their fall preps for their season. The Eagles, who are under new head coach Tommy Minton, finished its 2013 season with a 5-7 mark, falling to eventual state champion and district foe Vermilion Catholic 34-0 in the regional round of the Division IV state playoffs. The Eagles’ preseason work this fall will begin at 4 p.m. today when it takes on Covenant Christian in the Louisiana High School Officials Clinic. The team will host Ellender Aug. 21 at 5:30 p.m. in a scrimmage at the Central Catholic practice field, before participating in the innaugural Kiwanis Select Jamboree at Teurlings Catholic High School Aug. 29 against Sacred Heart. Central Catholic will open its season Sept. 5 at Loreauville in a 7 p.m. contest. (The Daily Review/Photos by Geoff Stoute)
