Sheriff: Man fractured fellow jail inmate's face
A 32-year-old Patterson man, already in the parish jail, was accused Tuesday of hitting another inmate, fracturing the victim’s face in the process, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Mark Hilliard, 32, of Patterson, was additionally charged with aggravated second degree battery at 1:54 p.m. Tuesday. Hilliard, an inmate at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville, struck another inmate with a food tray and his fists during an argument, Hebert said.
The victim sustained a facial fracture during the altercation and was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released to jail custody, Hebert said. Hilliard remains in jail.
Hebert reported responding to 42 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Shabbanekia Myles, 21, of the 400 block of Wedell Street in Patterson, was arrested at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of theft.
—Karnisha Williams, 26, of the 500 block of Locust Street in Thibodaux, was arrested at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of theft more than $1,000.
A deputy responded to a complaint of employee theft at a retail store in Bayou Vista. The deputy learned that Myles and Williams purchased items using an employee discount and then returned the items for a full price refund, Hebert said. The deputy determined that Williams also stole more than $400 in cash from the business, the sheriff said. Both suspects were jailed. Myles was released on a summons to appear in court July 22. Williams was released on $2,500 bail.
Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. reported the following arrests:
—Albert Soto, 63, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging him with failure to appear for failure to pay a probation fee. Officers located Soto in the area of Federal Avenue, and he was jailed.
—Michael Granger, 63, of Fifth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:21 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of expired inspection sticker, license plate light required, no insurance, possession of alcoholic beverages in motor vehicle, driving under suspension and a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant charging him with criminal neglect of family.
An officer in the area of Fifth and Maine streets noticed a vehicle without a license plate light. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, Granger, was found to have a suspended driver’s license and no insurance.
The officer also noticed an open alcoholic beverage container inside Granger’s vehicle. Granger was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
