A 29-year-old Morgan City woman was charged with possession of multiple drugs with intent to distribute after a traffic stop Tuesday, Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. said in a news release.
—Jennifer C. Gonzales, 29, of Chestnut Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:55 p.m. Tuesday for possession of Schedule II cocaine with intent to distribute (crack and powder), possession of Schedule II oxycodone with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, transactions involving proceeds from illegal narcotics activity, illegal use of a controlled drug in the presence of people under age 17, driving under suspension, and on a Terrebonne Parish fugitive warrant for speeding and theft of goods.
Detectives observed Gonzales operating a vehicle in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near Allison Street and was aware that Gonzales did not possess a valid driver’s license, Griffin said.
Detectives also received information that Gonzales was involved in the illegal sales of narcotics in the Morgan City area, Griffin said. During the investigation, officers recovered crack and powder cocaine from the vehicle as well as several pills identified as Oxycodone, both Schedule II substances.
Investigators also recovered $762 in cash along with paraphernalia and scale used to divide narcotics for sale, Griffin said. Based on evidence and statements, officers determined that the narcotics were destined for sale in the area and that some of the currency located was derived from previous transactions, Griffin said. Gonzales was jailed with no bail set.
Griffin reported the following arrests:
—Janna M. Gilmore, 29, of Morgan City, was arrested at 12:29 p.m. Tuesday for child desertion and unauthorized access of handicap parking.
Officers were dispatched to a Brashear Avenue pharmacy in regard to a woman leaving children inside a vehicle unattended, Griffin said. Officers observed the vehicle in question improperly parked in a handicap parking spot, Griffin said.
According to the report, the vehicle was unsecured and found to contain two small infants in the rear seat of the vehicle, Griffin said. The witness advised that an unknown woman had asked the witness to watch the children and then walked inside the business, Griffin said.
Officers also received a separate complaint in regard to a vehicle being driven in a reckless manner, Griffin said. The suspect’s vehicle also fit the description of that vehicle as well. Officers located the driver, Gilmore, inside the business, Griffin said. Officers learned of several other witnesses who became concerned regarding the children’s safety, Griffin said. Gilmore appeared impaired, agitated and with slurred speech, Griffin said.
Officers secured the infants and released them to concerned family members, Griffin said. Gilmore was jailed.
—Elvin Melendez, 26, of Morgan City, was arrested at 6:55 a.m. Tuesday for reckless operation of a moving vehicle and no driver’s license.
An officer patrolling the school zone area near Federal Avenue observed a speeding vehicle what was determined to be traveling at 45 mph in the area of an elementary school, Griffin said. The vehicle was observed being driven in a reckless manner near pedestrians, Griffin said. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, identified as Melendez, was discovered to be operating a vehicle with no driver’s license. Melendez was jailed and released after posting cash bail.
—Irvin Arce, 34, of Franklin, was arrested at 1:18 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to pay fine for no driver’s license, no driver’s license third offense and improper turning.
—Walter G. Fowler, 52, of Fifth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:18 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to pay a fine on the charge of speeding and a warrant for failure to pay a fine on the charge of possession of marijuana or synthetic.
A patrolling officer observed Arce operating a vehicle in the area of Brashear Avenue and Fifth Street, Griffin said. The officer was aware that Arce did not possess a valid driver’s license and stopped the vehicle to investigate, Griffin said. Arce was found to be wanted on outstanding warrants for the City Court of Morgan City. A passenger, Fowler, was also found to be wanted on outstanding warrants for the 6th Ward and 16th Judicial District Courts. Both were jailed.
—Robert L. Mulligan, 63, of Morgan City, was arrested at 3 p.m. Tuesday for contempt of court by appearing intoxicated.
Mulligan was arrested after he appeared in the Sixth Ward City Court of Morgan City in an intoxicated condition. Mulligan was arrested and booked into the Morgan City jail facility where he remains incarcerated.
—Patricia Ryan, 33, of U.S. 90 in Morgan City, was arrested Tuesday on warrants for possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violation.
Officers located Ryan at a La. 182 supermarket and placed her under arrest on outstanding warrants for the Morgan City Police Department. Ryan was taken to the Morgan City Police Department where she was booked and incarcerated.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported no arrests.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
