Police say a Stephensville woman hit a car in Morgan City, took officers on a chase to Stephensville, hit a St. Martin patrol unit and tried to swallow drugs in her possession before she was apprehended.
—Venetia Gros, 55, of Stephensville Road in Stephensville, was arrested at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday on charges of aggravated flight from an officer, resisting an officer, hit and run driving, no seat belt, possession of Schedule II (methamphetamine), obstruction of justice and careless operation of a moving vehicle.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said officers investigating a hit and run accident in the area of Clothilde and Ninth streets located the suspected vehicle on La. 70 near the Lake End Park area and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver, at first, refused to stop and was observed weaving into oncoming traffic and onto the shoulder of the roadway, Banks said.
The vehicle finally stopped and the female driver appeared to be exiting the vehicle. The vehicle then pulled away and proceeded on La. 70 toward Stephensville, while continuing to swerve erratically, the chief said.
St. Martin Sheriff’s Office was contacted as the vehicle turned onto Stephensville Road. The vehicle was eventually stopped when a St. Martin unit pulled in front of the car, blocking the narrow roadway. The vehicle stopped, and the driver refused to exit the vehicle or unlock her door. As officers attempted to gain entry into the vehicle, the driver sped up, striking the St. Martin unit and coming to rest, Banks said.
The door was unlocked and Gros had to be physically removed from the vehicle. She was clutching cellophane and foil in her hand, the report said. Gros also attempted to swallow an object which appeared to be the same type cellophane and foil, Banks said. It contained a white mixture believed to be methamphetamine, he said. The remains of the substance was retrieved.
She remains jailed with no bail set. The substance, believed to be methamphetamine, was seized for analysis. There may be additional charges pending regarding the crash in St. Martin Parish by the Louisiana State Police who were summoned to assist.

Wilson, the passenger, was found in possession of pipes commonly used to consume illegal narcotics and a cellophane bag which contained a bag of pills identified as alprazolam, Banks said. The bag also contained two more small bags of suspected crack and powder cocaine, he added. These items were seized.
