Chase leads to drug charges for Patterson man

A 35-year-old Patterson man led police on a high-speed chase this morning after Morgan City police pulled him over for illegal window tint. Upon arrest, officers found cocaine, marijuana and Xanax in the vehicle, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Jovan M. Mosely, 35, of Bernard Street in Patterson, was arrested at 3:30 a.m. today on the charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of marijuana, resisting an officer, aggravated flight from an officer, illegal carrying of weapons, carrying of concealed weapon by a convicted felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with the intent to distribute Xanax, violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance law, driving under suspension, no proof of vehicle insurance and window tint violation.
An officer patrolling the area of Justa Street observed a vehicle on Allison Street with illegal window tint and conducted a traffic stop near a church. The driver, identified as Mosely, appeared to be spraying air freshener inside the vehicle, Blair said.
Mosely didn’t have proper proof of insurance for the vehicle and had a suspended driver’s license. While speaking with Mosely, officers detected a marijuana odor coming from the vehicle and Mosely. Small pieces of what appeared to be marijuana were also observed on Mosely’s shirt. Mosely began reaching inside his pockets, and officers told him several times to stop doing so. Mosely then pulled out a pair of brass knuckles.
Officers attempted to conduct a pat down when Mosley ran back to his vehicle. Mosely got back inside the vehicle while officers struggled to get him out, Blair said. Mosely was able to drive away and fleeing east on U.S. 90 when officers pursued him.
The pursuit continued to La. 182 then to La. 662 then onto La. 20 to Bayou Black Drive reaching speeds of 100 mph, Blair said. Louisiana State Police also assisted with pursuit. Mosely was observed throwing objects out of the vehicle which officers believed to be illegal narcotics.
While attempting to turn, Mosely lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle slid into a drainage ditch. Mosely got out of the vehicle and began running on foot from officers, but he was captured moments later, Blair said. A search of the vehicle located suspected marijuana, cocaine and Xanax. Suspected marijuana was also located on Mosely, Blair said.
Blair reported the following arrest:
—Ulyses I. Bias, 59, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:27 p.m. Monday on the charges of appearing in an intoxicated condition, and resisting an officer by giving false information.
An officer responded to an address on Egle Street in regard to a person that had fallen off a bicycle. The officer located a person sitting on the side of the street next to a bicycle. He told the officer he was Kevin Bias, Blair said.
Police believe that Bias had been drinking and appeared to be intoxicated. Bias was arrested at which time he revealed that his real name was Ulyses Bias, Blair said. Bias was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 36 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Kenneth L. Allridge, 51, of the 1000 block of Oil Tank Alley in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:21 a.m. Monday on warrants for failure to appear on the charges of direct contempt, failure to use seatbelts, and failure to honor written promise to appear and for issuing worthless checks.
A deputy located Allridge at his residence on the warrant and transported him to the parish jail for booking. Allridge was released on $200 bail.
—Sterling A. Scully, 52, of the 3500 block of Lake Palourde Road in Amelia, was arrested at 11:21 a.m. Monday on the charge of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies. A deputy responded to a request from the U.S. Coast Guard for assistance following a vessel stop.
The deputy met members of the Coast Guard at Marcel Landing in Amelia and learned that they had found Scully, a convicted felon, in possession of a shot gun while rendering aid to the man who was having engine problems in Bayou Boeuf, Hebert said. Scully was jailed with no bail set.
—Antoinette O. Davis, 37, of the 500 block of Roderick Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:46 p.m. Monday on the charges of possession of Schedule II methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. A deputy responded to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle on Henry Street in the Patterson area.
The deputy located the vehicle and made contact with Davis who was near the SUV. The deputy observed that Davis was exhibiting behavior consistent with illegal drug use.
The deputy called in a detective with the Narcotics Division for further investigation. While speaking with Davis, the narcotics detective learned that she was in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine and a needle and syringe. The illegal drug and paraphernalia were recovered and Davis was jailed. No bail is set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Eric Driskill, 40, of Second Street in Berwick, was arrested at 6:59 p.m. Monday on warrants charging him with hit and run and careless operation. He was transferred to the Morgan City Police Department.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
