Morgan City man arrested, charged with battery on officer

A man allegedly disturbing the peace intoxicated was arrested Monday after committing battery on a police officer, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Rene Landry, 57, of Brashear Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 10 p.m. Monday on the charges of resisting an officer, disturbing the peace intoxicated and battery on a police officer. Officers were dispatched to a residence on Brashear Avenue in regards to a disturbance.
When officers arrived, reports indicated that Rene Landry was irate, using profanities and appeared intoxicated. While officers were talking to Landry, he committed a battery on one of the officers. Landry was then placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and was jailed.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Blaine A. Scully, 42, of Cypress Street in Morgan City, at 8:52 a.m. Monday on a warrant – simple assault and a warrant – disturbing the peace. Scully was transported from the Assumption Parish Detention Center to the Morgan City Police Department for active warrants he held for the Morgan City Police Department.
The warrants stem from an incident on Sept. 20 in which Scully allegedly threatened an individual with a weapon at a local business. Scully was booked and jailed.
—Ted A. Smith, 46, of Dawn Drive in Morgan City, at 6:56 p.m. Monday on the following charges of disturbing the peace and aggravated assault with a firearm. Officers were dispatched to the area of Everett and First streets in regards to a disturbance.
When officers arrived, they were told that Smith had threatened an individual with a firearm. A description of Smith was given and officers located Smith on First Street. According to reports, Smith admitted that he was at the location.
Officers did find a firearm in Smith’s vehicle. Smith was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and was jailed.
—Danielle Ballance, 39, of Bernice Street in Morgan City, on 6:57 p.m. Monday on a warrant – failure to appear and a warrant – failure to appear/ contempt of court. Ballance turned herself in to the Morgan City Police Department for active warrants she held for Sixth Ward City Court.
Ballance was booked and jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 38 complaints and reported the following arrests:
—Cody White, 22, of the 2300 block of River Road in Berwick, at 6:24 a.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of simple battery. A deputy assisting Berwick Police with a complaint made contact with White at his residence and located the active warrant for his arrest. No bail was set.
—Ryan A. Billiot, 34, of the 100 block of Teche Road in Bayou Vista was additionally charged on a warrant for hit and run driving at 12:40 p.m. Monday. A deputy investigating a hit and run crash identified Billiot as the subject who backed into another vehicle and then left the scene.
The crash occurred at a business on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista. The deputy obtained a warrant for his arrest. Billiot was already incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center when the charges were filed. No bail was set.
—Edwin Fonseca, 26, of the 700 block of Duval Street in Amelia, at 9:41 p.m. Monday on a warrant for criminal damage to property, a warrant from Terrebonne Parish for failure to appear on the charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and violating the general speed law, and a warrant from Terrebonne Parish for failure to appear on the charges of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol second offense
A deputy received information that Fonseca was living at a new address and located him at the residence on Duval Street on the warrants. No bail was set.
Patterson Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Maurice Lewis II, 25, of Baton Rouge, at 11:48 p.m. Monday on the charges of possession of prescription drugs without prescription, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of firearm in the presence of illegal drugs, and possession of promethazine without prescription.
Lewis remains jailed at the Patterson Police Department. No bail was set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
