Morgan City man dies from gunshot wound in Terrebonne Parish

A 23-year-old Morgan City man died Thursday after being shot Wednesday in Terrebonne Parish, according to a news release.
The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation into Wednesday night’s shooting on Jennings Lane, Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said in the news release.
The victim, Joshua Naverro, 23, of Morgan City, was pronounced dead at Terrebonne General Medical Center late Thursday night as a result of a gunshot wound from an incident Wednesday night on Jennings Lane, the release said.
Detectives arrested Calvin Demon Hollis, 26, of the 200 block of Jolie Oaks Blvd in Thibodaux for one count of manslaughter Thursday night in connection with the death of Naverro, the release stated.
Hollis said he was playing with a firearm when it malfunctioned, discharged, striking Naverro in the head, the release said.
Hollis will also be charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He has a previous conviction for drug offenses, the release said.
Hollis was located Thursday night and transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex where he was booked and jailed. He is awaiting a bond hearing
