Patterson man charged with 5th DWI

A 40-year-old Patterson man was charged this morning with driving while intoxicated for the fifth time after being stopped at Main and Catherine streets in Patterson, Police Chief Patrick LaSalle said in a news release.
—Darrell Sides, 40, of the 300 block of Wise Street in Patterson, was arrested at 2:33 a.m. today on the charge of speeding 47 mph in a 35 mph zone, driving under suspension and driving while intoxicated fifth offense. Sides was jailed with no bail set.
LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Gilbert Wilson, 34, of the 1200 block of Carmen Street in Patterson, was arrested at 4:21 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging him with simple criminal damage to property and simple battery. Wilson was released on $1,500 bail.
—Michael Bennett, 46, of the 100 block of Martin Luther King Avenue in Patterson, was arrested at 5:38 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of possession of marijuana second offense. No bail is set yet.
—Johnny Bennett, 52, of the 100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Patterson, was arrested at 5:38 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of possession of marijuana, on a warrant charging him with sexual battery and indecent behavior with a juvenile. No bail is set yet.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 42 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Leslie Matthews, 40, of the 100 block of Friendship Alley in Amelia, was arrested at 4:01 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging her with issuing worthless checks and four warrants for failure to appear for drug court status conferences on the charge of contempt of court. A deputy located Matthews at her residence on the warrants. No bail is set.
—Ben Box, 25, of the 100 block of Kaleb Lane in Centerville, was arrested at 6:46 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant on the charge of felony theft and felony illegal possession of stolen things. The warrants are the result of an investigation into a report of a theft from two businesses in Centerville that occurred in March.
The detective assigned to the case learned that several items including marine radios were stolen from two workboats. The stolen property totaled more than $6,000 in value.
The detective received information that Box attempted to sell items matching the description of the stolen property at a local pawn shop, Hebert said. While speaking with the detective, Box admitted that he stole the property. The marine radios and some of the other items were returned to the owners, the sheriff said. A deputy later located Box on Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista. No bail is set.
—Jason Gaskins, 32, of the 100 block of Friendship Alley in Amelia, was arrested at 6:48 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of domestic abuse battery and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of aggravated assault. A deputy patrolling the Amelia area made contact with Gaskins and learned of the active warrants for his arrest. No bail is set.
—Andrea Wilson, 29, of the 100 block of Friendship Alley in Amelia, was arrested at 9:14 p.m. Tuesday on two Morgan City Court warrants for failure to appear on charges of disturbing the peace and contempt of court. A deputy patrolling the Amelia area made contact with Wilson at a residence in Amelia and learned of the active warrants for her arrest. No bail is set.
—Jonathan Ruffin, 28, of the 1400 block of James Street in Siracusaville, was arrested at 6:47 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, violation of a controlled dangerous substance law (drug free zone) and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of juveniles.
Narcotics division detectives executed a search warrant at Ruffin’s residence. During the search, detectives located several bags of marijuana inside Ruffin’s bedroom, Hebert said. Three children were present at the time the warrant was served. The location is within 2,000 feet of a church. Ruffin was jailed with no bail set.
—Davida Bias, 31, of the 1100 block of Grace Street in Amelia, was arrested at 6:47 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of entry on or remaining in places or on land after being forbidden. While conducting the investigation on James Street, detectives observed Bias on the property. Bias was told several times to leave the property while detectives conducted the investigation. Bias refused detectives orders to leave and was subsequently arrested, Hebert said. Detectives released her on a summons to appear in court Aug. 19.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Samantha M. Williams, 25, of Duke Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for three counts of failure to appear to pay a fine.
—Therina L. Russel, 40, of Duke Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear for trial, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of Schedule I marijuana.
Officers were dispatched to a Duke Street residence in regard to locating Williams and Russel, who were wanted on warrants. At the residence, officers noticed suspected marijuana and a pipe commonly used to smoke suspected marijuana in Russel’s bedroom, Blair said. Both suspects were jailed.
—Ciara V. Williams, 26, of Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:21 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of stop sign violation, resisting an officer, possession of alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle, driving under suspension and on a Patterson police warrant for failure to return leased merchandise.
An officer in the area of Barrow Street near Federal Avenue noticed a vehicle fail to stop at the stop sign. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver of the vehicle parked the vehicle near a residence and fled, Blair said.
Officers were able to apprehend the driver, Williams. Officers searched Williams’ vehicle and located an open alcoholic beverage in the console, Blair said. Williams was jailed.
—Amy Chauvin, 39, of Raceland, was arrested at 6:26 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of obscenity, appearing in public intoxicated and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers were dispatched to a local motel on Brashear Avenue in regard to a woman nude in the parking lot, Blair said. When officers arrived, witnesses stated that the woman had taken off her dress and her genitalia were exposed, Blair said. Officers were able to locate the woman in the parking lot, but she was clothed when they found her, Blair said.
While talking to Chauvin, officers noticed that she appeared to be in a very intoxicated condition. Chauvin was placed under arrest. Officers located a pipe which is commonly used to smoke illegal narcotics in Chauvin’s purse. Chauvin was jailed.
—Andrea Wilson, 29, of Louisiana Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:04 a.m. today on warrants charging her with disturbing the peace and contempt of court.
Wilson was arrested by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office for outstanding warrants for the Sixth Ward City Court. She was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
