Police: Four jailed on drug charges after search

Four people were arrested Thursday on drug charges after detectives conducted a search warrant of a home on Marshall Street in Morgan City, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Sonia M. Todd, 36, of Marshall Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:38 p.m. Thursday on the charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of uniformed controlled sub-stance law (drug-free zone) and on a hold for probation and parole.
—Tommy D. Donati, 33, of Marshall Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:38 p.m. Thursday on the charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance law (drug-free zone) and on a warrant for driving under suspension and criminal neglect of family.
—Phillip J. Donati, 61, of Marshall Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:38 p.m. Thursday on the charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance law (drug-free zone).
—Michael S. Cairns, 33, of Marshall Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:38 p.m. Thursday on the charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana third offense, violation of uniformed con-trolled dangerous substance law (drug-free zone) and on a warrant for appearing in public intoxicated.
The Morgan City Police Department Narcotics Divi-sion, along with the assis-tance of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division, executed a search warrant at an address on Marshall Street.
Todd, Tommy Donati, Phillip Donati and Cairns were found inside the home. Officers searched the home and located suspected methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, Blair said.
The home was also within the zone of a local school. All four suspects were jailed.
Blair reported the follow-ing arrests:
—Wesley R. Chappelle, 52, of Emy Street in Patterson, was arrested at 6:32 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of theft of goods and resisting an officer.
Officers responded to a local store on La. 182 in regard to a shoplifter. Chappelle was located inside, ran from officers and was captured moments later, Blair said. Witnesses said Chappelle had taken a bottle of liquor and was attempting to conceal it inside his pants. Chappelle was jailed.
—Matthew J. Garces, 25, of Belle Chasse, was arrested at 8:44 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of driving under suspension and improper turning and on warrants for Lafayette police, Thibodaux police and Hahnville police.
An officer patrolling the area of Sixth Street observed a vehicle making an improper turn at the intersection of Arenz Street, nearly causing a crash.
A traffic stop was conduct-ed and the driver, identified as Garces, had a suspended driver’s license and outstanding warrants. Garces was jailed.
—De’Erin D. Thomas, 19, of General MacArthur Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:37 p.m. Thursday on the charge of engaging in a fistic encounter.
—Dajia Z. Johnson, 18, of Garber Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:37 p.m. Thursday on the charge of engaging in a fistic encounter.
An officer responded to an address on Garber Street in regard to a fight. The officer arrived and located Johnson and Thomas, who were believed to have been involved in the altercation, according to witnesses. Both Johnson and Thomas were jailed.
—Kerry A. Martin, 19, of Garber Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:54 a.m. today on the charge of entering or remaining after being forbidden and resisting an officer.
An officer responded to a business on La. 182 in regard to a person being in the store who had previously been barred from the property. Officers located Martin in the area who fit the description of the subject barred from the property.
Martin told officers that he forgot he was barred from the store, Blair said. Martin was arrested, at which time he began running from officers. After a short foot chase, Martin was captured and jailed.
—Jonah A. Steele, 39, of Gina Street in Patterson, was arrested at 6:54 a.m. today on the charges of theft of goods, appearing in an intoxicated condition, possession of Schedule III narcotics (Sublingual) and possession of Schedule IV narcotics (Clonazepam).
An officer responded to a business on La. 182 in regard to an intoxicated person inside. Officers located Steele, who fit the description of the subject. Employees of the business told officers that Steele had ordered and consumed $18.57 of food and would not pay for the food, Blair said.
Steele was arrested and a search of him revealed sus-pected Sublingual and Clonazepam. Steele was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 33 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Ronald J. Winslow Jr., 25, of the 600 block of Terrebonne Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:38 a.m. Thursday on a warrant for criminal mischief and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
On Dec. 7, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into a report of a shooting. Deputies responded to Teche Regional Medical Center where a man was being treated for a gunshot wound to the knee, Hebert said.
The man, identified as Winslow, claimed he was shot in the knee after encountering four unknown people in a vehicle on Lake Palourde Road in Amelia, Hebert said.
However, based on evi-dence gathered during the investigation, the detective assigned to the case discov-ered that Winslow’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted, Hebert said. The detective also knew that Winslow is a convicted felon. A warrant was obtained for his arrest for filing the false report and possessing a firearm. Winslow was already incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on unrelated charges. No bail is set.
—Pedro Chapuz Fabre, 36, of Morgan City, was arrested at 9:56 p.m. Thursday on the charge of disturbing the peace for appearing in an intoxicated condition, proper equipment required, and violation of the riding on roadways and bicycle paths law.
A deputy patrolling Amelia observed a man riding a bicycle in the middle of the lane of travel on La. 182 with no reflective lighting or illumination. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the rider, identified as Fabre. The deputy smelled the odor of alcohol on his breath. Following the traffic stop investigation, Fabre was jailed with bail set at $1,000.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
