Police make another ‘April Fool’ arrest made

A 21-year-old Patterson man was charged Tuesday with distributing cocaine as part of the Morgan City Police Department’s “Operation April Fool” investigation, Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. said in a news release.
—Jovon Johnson, 21, of Park Street in Patterson, was arrested at 1:49 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging him with two counts of distribution of cocaine and violation of controlled dangerous substance law (drug free zone). Johnson was arrested during the ongoing investigation with “Operation April Fool,” Griffin said. Johnson was jailed.
Griffin reported the following arrests:
—Ryan Sullivan, 25, of North Little Rock, Arkansas, at 11:08 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of possession of Schedule I synthetic marijuana.
—Jared Hope, 25, of La. 182 West in Morgan City, at 11:16 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of possession of Schedule I synthetic marijuana.
Officers with the Morgan City Police Department responded to a La. 182 motel in reference to a narcotics complaint. During the investigation officers located Sullivan and Hope. Officers, while conducting the investigation, noticed what appeared to be suspected synthetic marijuana, Griffin said.
During a search of Sullivan, after his arrest, officers located more suspected synthetic marijuana on him, Griffin said. Both Sullivan and Hope were jailed.
—Taylor Richard, 17, of Fourth Street in Morgan City, at 10:55 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging him with criminal mischief. Richard turned himself in to the Police Department and was released after posting cash bail.
—Shannon Wainwright, 43, of Fifth Street in Morgan City, at 2:25 p.m. Tuesday on warrants charging her with simple battery, simple criminal damage to property less than $750 and disturbing the peace. Wainwright was jailed and released after posting cash bail.
—Sable Leal, 25, of Honey Lane in Morgan City, at 5:23 p.m. Tuesday on warrants for failure to appear in 16th Judicial District Court on the charge of improper taillights and failure to appear in the 16th Judicial District Court on the charge of no driver’s license. Leal was arrested after officers came into contact with her at a La. 182 motel. Leal was found to be wanted by the 16th Judicial District Court. Leal was jailed.
—Eric Mclemore, 27, of Jamie Street in Morgan City, at 9:21 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of no tail lamps and on warrants charging him with failure to appear for probation fee and probation violation.
An officer conducting a traffic stop in the area of Ninth Street came into contact with the driver, identified as Mclemore. Officers learned of his outstanding warrants, and he was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 41 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Hugo Herminio Campuzano, 37, of the 3000 block of Mark Drive in Morgan City, at 9:06 p.m. Tuesday for domestic abuse battery.
A deputy responded to a location in Bayou Vista in reference to a report of a battery. While in the area, the deputy located Campuzano and detained him. The deputy learned that Campuzano kicked a woman in the shin during an argument, Hebert said. Campuzano was jailed with no bail set.
—Blake Smith, 24, of the 300 block of Tabb Street in Patterson, at 2:12 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal trespassing. A deputy transported Smith from the Lafayette Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville on the warrant. No bail is set.
—Michael Bennett, 46, of the 100 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard in Patterson, at 3:08 a.m. today for possession of Schedule I drugs and on a warrant from Morgan City Police for probation violation.
A deputy assigned to patrol the Amelia area observed a vehicle on Jake D. Kent Road in the roadway with no lights on, Hebert said. The deputy made contact with three people standing near the vehicle. One of the people, identified as Bennett, was found to be in possession of two small bags of marijuana, Hebert said. The deputy also learned that Bennett had an active warrant for his arrest. Bennett was jailed with no bail set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Katina Mayon, 39, of Bayou Black Drive in Gibson, at 7:39 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging her with telephone harassment. Mayon was released on $1,000 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
