A 35-year-old Franklin man was caught with methamphetamine and ecstasy pills Thursday after he fled from police in Morgan City, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Reginald Sims, 35, of Joseph Street in Franklin, was arrested at 8:41 a.m. Thursday on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of MDMA (ecstasy) with the intent to distribute, violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws, transaction involving drug proceeds, no vehicle insurance, driving under suspension, switched license plate and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling in the area of La. 182 near Ditch Avenue. The officer observed the vehicle making several evasive turns, which made officers suspicious that the driver of the vehicle may be attempting to avoid being seen by the officer, Blair said.
Police observed the vehicle pulling into a Bernice Street home when the driver of the vehicle, Sims, got out of the vehicle and began quickly walking away from the area cutting through several residents’ yards.
The officer stopped Sims when a warrants check revealed that there was an active warrant for 16th Judicial District Court. The officer searched Sims and located suspected methamphetamine, ecstasy pills and cash, which was believed to be obtained from the sales of illegal drugs, Blair said.
The location of the incident was within the area of a church in violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws.
Sims was jailed.
