Police: Man struck woman in the face

A man was arrested Sunday after allegedly striking a woman in the face and disturbing the peace, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Derrick J. Jones, 33, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:27 a.m. Sunday on the charges of domestic abuse battery and disturbing the peace. Officers were dispatched to a residence on Egle Street in regards to a domestic disturbance.
When officers arrived, the victim explained that Jones had struck her in the face. Officers did notice marks on the victim’s face consistent with her statement.
Jones was located outside the residence and was using profanities in the presence of the neighbors and children in the area. According to reports, Jones did admit to pushing the victim.
Jones was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and was jailed.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Ray C. Granger, 28, of Caffery Street in Franklin, at 2:40 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with three counts of failure to pay fines.
Granger was transported from the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center to the Morgan City Police Department for active warrants he held for the Sixth Ward City Court.
—Curtis R. Robinson, 45, of Fourth Street in Morgan City, at 7:34 p.m. Monday on the charge of taking contraband to/from a penal institution.
Robinson was already incarcerated in the Morgan City jail, when a corrections officer noticed him trying to conceal an object, Blair said. Upon searching Robinson, the officer found tobacco products in Robinson’s possession, Blair said. Robinson was booked and is still incarcerated.
—Carl W. Allen Jr., 24, of Park Road in Patterson, at 7:50 p.m. Monday on warrants charging him with distribution of crack cocaine, probation violation, failure to pay probation fees and failure to pay fines.
Allen was located by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division in Verdunville and transported to the Morgan City Police Department. The warrant is in connection with Operation April Fool, in which Allen was charged with distribution of crack cocaine, Blair said. Allen was jailed.
—Darryl J. LaGarde, 56, of Houma, at 9:15 p.m. Monday on the charges of no turn signal, driving under suspension and on warrants for failure to appear on the charge of no turn signal and the charge of failure to appear on the charge of no driver’s license.
An officer in the area of 11th Street and Railroad Avenue observed a vehicle fail to use a turn signal. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, LaGarde, was discovered to have a suspended driver’s license. LaGarde was jailed.
—Christina L. Pitre, 36, of Sixth Street in Berwick, at 9:29 p.m. Monday on the charges of resisting an officer by giving false information and handicapped parking zone.
A patrol officer was dispatched to a local business on La. 182 for a vehicle parked in a handicap zone without any handicap plates. The officer made contact with the driver, Pitre, who was given a citation. The officer noticed the name on the citation was different from the name signed on the ticket, Blair said.
Pitre admitted to giving a false name to the officer, Blair said. Pitre was jailed.
—Darby J. Smith, 44, of LaRose, at 9:59 p.m. Monday on the charges of no seat belt and driving under suspension.
A patrol officer in the area of the U.S. 90 Federal Avenue down ramp observed a driver in a vehicle not wearing a seat belt and stopped the vehicle. The driver, Smith, was found to have a suspended driver’s license. Darby was jailed.
—Wayne M. Escort, 27, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, at 2:16 a.m. today on the charges of no turn signal, resisting an officer, no driver’s license, no seat belt, and two counts of criminal trespassing.
A patrol officer in the area of Elk Street and Victor II Boulevard observed a vehicle fail to use a turn signal and noticed the driver was not wearing a seat belt, and conducted a traffic stop.
Upon the officer approaching, the driver, Escort, began to flee, Blair said. Officers observed Escort running through backyards of residences in the area, before being apprehended, Blair said. Escort was jailed.
—Casey R. Reeves, 35, of Kinder, at 9:21 p.m. Saturday on the charges of driving under suspension and failure to use a turn signal.
A patrol officer in the area of La. 70 and the U.S. 90 junction observed a vehicle fail use a turn signal and conducted a traffic stop. Reeves was determined to have a suspended driver’s license. Reeves was jailed.
—Jeremy R. LaCarte, 25, of Florence Street in Morgan City, at 10:16 p.m. Saturday on the charge for warrant – failure to appear (five counts). LaCarte was a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in a traffic stop.
A warrants check was done on LaCarte and it was determined that he held active warrants for the Sixth Ward City Court. LaCarte was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and was jailed.
—Shawn M. Guidry, 37, of Henry Street in Patterson, at 2:31 a.m. Sunday on the charges of driving under suspension, license plate light required, warrant – failure to appear, and warrant – domestic abuse battery for St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.
A patrol officer in the area of Second and St. Clair streets observed a vehicle with improper lighting. The vehicle was stopped to investigate. The driver, Guidry, was asked to produce a valid driver’s license.
A computer check revealed that Guidry’s driver’s license was under suspension. Guidry also held warrants for the Sixth Ward City Court and the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. Guidry was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 51 complaints and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Antoine Webb, 32, of the 700 block of St. Michael Street in Patterson, at 6:40 p.m. Monday on the charges of general speed law, driving under suspension, a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of theft, and warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of marijuana.
A deputy traveling on Verdun Lane observed a vehicle driving at a speed above the posted limit and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Webb, and learned that he was operating the vehicle with a suspended license.
The deputy also located warrants for Webb’s arrest. The deputy transported Webb to the parish jail for booking. Bail was set at $5,250.
—Ronald Hall, 33, of the 3500 block of La. 182 in Berwick, at 11:54 p.m. Monday on the charge of driving under suspension. A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista observed a vehicle pull into a parking lot on Southeast Boulevard.
The driver opened the hood of the vehicle and the deputy made contact with him to offer assistance. While speaking with the driver, identified as Hall, the deputy learned that he was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.
Hall was released on a summons to appear in court Dec. 7.
—Carl Allen, 24, of the 700 block of Park Street in Patterson, at 6:31 p.m. Monday on the charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and on a warrant for Morgan City Police.
While patrolling Verdunville, detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Verdun Road and made contact with the occupants of the vehicle. Detectives identified a passenger as Allen, whom detectives knew had an active arrest warrant for his arrest.
As the traffic stop investigation continued, detectives located a bag containing a small amount of marijuana and a pack of cigars where Allen was seated. Allen was released on a summons for the marijuana and drug paraphernalia and transported to the Morgan City Police Department on the warrant.
Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire reported the following arrest relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Christina Pitre, 36, of Sixth Street in Berwick, at 11:40 p.m. Monday on the charges of theft of goods and resisting an officer by giving false information. Officers responded to a complaint of a shoplifter at a supermarket located on La. 3211.
When officers asked Pitre for her name, she gave officers a false name. Pitre allegedly tried to take clothing items valued at $77.27 from the store. Pitre was processed and released on a $2,000.00 bond.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
