Police: Robbery suspect pinned victim against a wall

A 44-year-old Morgan City man is in jail after he pinned someone against a wall and robbed the person in the area of Brashear Avenue and Fourth Street, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Carl C. Lewis Jr., 44, of Birch Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3 p.m. Monday on the charges of simple robbery, resisting an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers responded to a business on Brashear Avenue in regard to a suspect taking money and fleeing the area. The officers arrived and spoke with a person later identified as the victim of a robbery. The victim told officers that someone approached the victim while in the area of Brashear Avenue and Fourth Street and pinned the victim against a wall, Blair said.
The suspected robber then took the victim’s money and fled on foot running towards Greenwood Street, Blair said. Officers located Lewis, who matched the description of the suspect, in the area. As officers approached, Lewis fled from them on foot, Blair said.
A foot chase ensued, and officers apprehended Lewis moments later. After a short struggle, Lewis was handcuffed and police located suspected drug paraphernalia on him, Blair said.
Police discovered evidence of the robbery during the investigation, Blair said. Lewis was jailed with no bail set yet.
Blair reported the following arrest:
—Craig M. Free, 30, of Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:19 a.m. Monday on the charge of domestic abuse battery and on a warrant charging him with probation violation.
Officers responded to an address on Railroad Avenue in regard to a reported battery. The officers arrived and located a woman who showed signs of a battery and Free. The woman told officers that she and Free were involved in an argument when Free committed a battery on her, Blair said. Free was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 33 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Jermoud Watts, 26, of the 700 block of Kentucky Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:44 p.m. Monday on the charge of battery of a correctional facility employee. Watts, currently incarcerated at the parish jail, threw coffee on a deputy conducting feeding duties, Hebert said. He remains in jail with no bail set.
—George Griffin Jr, 64, of the 1800 block of Rose Street in Berwick, was arrested at 11:03 p.m. Monday on the charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, license plate light required and brake lights required.
A deputy assigned to patrol the Bayou Vista area conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle without a functioning license plate light and brake light. During the traffic stop, the driver made contact with the driver, Griffin. The deputy searched the vehicle and found a bag containing methamphetamine, Hebert said. The location of the drug bust was within 2,000 feet of a church, the sheriff said. Griffin was jailed with no bail set.
—Joey Lofton, 57, of the 100 block of Loggers Lane in Trout, was arrested at 11:03 p.m. Monday on the charges of possession of alcoholic beverages in motor vehicles. A deputy assigned to patrol the Bayou Vista area conducted a traffic stop and made contact with a passenger, Lofton. Lofton was found to be in possession of an open container. Lofton was released on a summons to appear in court Nov. 21.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Devin Bell, 25, of the 700 block of Gabriel Street in Patterson, was arrested at 6:49 a.m. today on a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant for criminal neglect of family. No bail is set yet.
—Maximo Salazar, 41, of the 100 block of Wedell Street in Patterson, was arrested at 5:41 p.m. Monday on the charge of simple battery involving domestic violence. No bail is set yet.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Kaleb Morgan, 17, of La. 182 in Franklin, was arrested at 8:32 p.m. Monday on the charges of possession of marijuana and license plate light required. Morgan was released on $2,250 bail.
