Two people involved in a two-vehicle crash Friday on U.S. 90 sustained severe injuries after a 2007 Nissan Altima hit the rear of a 2005 GMC Envoy causing the Envoy to strike the Berwick exit ramp overpass, Berwick Police Chief James Richard said.
A 2007 Nissan Altima driven by John Scribner III, 27, of Cypress RV Park in Berwick, and a 2005 GMC Envoy driven by Patricia Jones, 54, of Thibodaux were involved in the crash.
The wreck occurred at about 10:15 a.m. Friday when both vehicles were traveling eastbound on U.S. 90, Richard said. The Altima struck the rear of the GMC causing her to lose control, running off the roadway and striking the Berwick exit ramp overpass, Richard said.
Scribner’s vehicle continued to travel and hit an embankment where it overturned and rested back on its tires, causing Scribner to be ejected, Richard said.
Scribner and Jones both sustained severe injuries and were taken to Teche Regional Medical Center, he said.
There was severe damage to both vehicles, he said.
Police suspect that Scribner was under the influence of alcohol and crime lab results are pending, Richard said.
