Sheriff: Amelia shooting under investigation; victim treated for non-life threatening injuries

Detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred this morning in Amelia leaving a 35-year-old man with non-life threatening injuries, according to a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office news release.
At 1:07 a.m. today, a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office dispatcher received multiple calls through 911 from several subjects stating that they heard gunfire near Bailey’s Lane and West Side Park Lane in Amelia. Deputies responded to the area and located a 35-year-old male victim with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his back on Lake Palourde Road near Bailey’s Lane, the release said.
Deputies also located an SUV off of the roadway. The victim was transported by Acadian Ambulance to Teche Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.
Detectives investigating the shooting learned that the victim was driving the SUV from Bailey’s Lane onto Lake Palourde Road when gunshots struck the vehicle grazing the victim, the release said.

As of about 10:40 a.m. today, detectives were working a couple leads but had not yet identified any suspects, Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Traci Landry said.
