Sheriff: Inmate threw urine on jailer

An inmate at the St. Mary Parish jail has been accused of throwing urine on a correctional officer, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Kevin Drexler, 33, of Amelia, was additionally charged at 3:26 p.m. Thursday with battery of a correctional facility employee. Drexler, an inmate at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, threw water containing urine onto a correctional officer, Hebert said. No bail is set.
Hebert reported responding to 166 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Jermaine Keys, 40, of the 100 block of Violet Street in Thibodaux, was arrested at 8:16 p.m. Thursday on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated. A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a residence in Amelia. The deputy located Keys in the area and gathered evidence that he was causing a disturbance in the neighborhood. Keys was booked into parish jail and later released on a summons to appear in court May 27.
—Geraldo Gamez Zamarripa, 31, of the 700 block of Magnolia Street in Amelia, was arrested at 10:54 p.m. Thursday on the charges of stop signs and yield signs (violation), driver must be licensed, and possession of (open) alcoholic beverages in motor vehicle.
A deputy assigned to patrol Amelia observed an SUV fail to stop at a stop sign on Lake Palourde Road and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, Zamarripa, and found that he was operating the vehicle without a driver’s license. The deputy also observed an open container of beer in the center console of the vehicle. Zamarripa was transported to the parish jail for booking and was released on a summons to appear in court May 27.
—Joel Plaisance, 28, of the 1200 block of Houma Highlands Drive in Houma, was arrested at 8:27 p.m. Friday on the charge of hit and run driving. A deputy investigating a report of a hit and run that occurred in January in the parking lot of a business in Amelia collected evidence that Plaisance struck the vehicle and then left the area, Hebert said. Plaisance was released on a summons to appear in court May 27.
—Stefayne Carter, 25, of the 1000 block of Grace Street in Siracusa, was arrested at 8:02 p.m. Saturday on the charges of headlight required and possession of marijuana. A deputy traveling on La. 182 in the Amelia area observed a car with only one working headlight and conducted a traffic stop.
The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Carter, and smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. During the traffic stop investigation, the deputy located marijuana inside a plastic baggie in a center compartment of the car, Hebert said. Carter was released on a summons to appear in court May 27.
—A juvenile male, 16, of Amelia, was arrested at 6:53 p.m. Sunday on the charges of off road vehicles on a public roadway and resisting an officer by giving false information.
A deputy traveling on La. 182 in the Amelia area ob-served a subject riding a four wheeler on the roadway and conducted a stop. The deputy made contact with the operator of the ATV who initially gave a false name and age, Hebert said. Following the traffic stop investigation, the deputy released the juvenile to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
—Sadie Templet, 18, of the 2100 block of Levee Highway in Pierre Part, was arrested at 11:41 p.m. Sunday on the charge of contributing to the delinquency of juveniles. A deputy responded to a com-plaint of a 16-year-old intoxicated juvenile male at a residence in Bayou Vista. The deputy collected evidence that the juvenile became intoxicated while in the company of Templet. The deputy made contact with Templet and, following the investigation, released her on a summons to appear in court May 27.
—Russell McGuire III, 39, of the 700 block of Seyburn Street in Patterson, was arrested at 12:42 a.m. today on the charges of license plate light required and driving under suspension. A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista observed a vehicle without an illuminated license plate and conducted a traffic stop on Southeast Boulevard. The deputy made contact with the driver, McGuire, who told the deputy his driver’s license was expired. Upon further investigation, the deputy learned that McGuire’s driver’s license was listed as suspended. McGuire was released on a summons to appear in court May 27.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Gregory Ballance, 17, of Bernice Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:26 p.m. Thursday on a warrant charging him with possession of marijuana.
Ballance turned himself in at the Morgan City Police Department in regard to an active arrest warrant. Ballance was booked into the Morgan City jail.
—Lorelyn M. Gotcher, 30, of Terrebonne Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:26 p.m. Thursday on the charges for two counts of theft by shoplifting and on a warrant charging her with theft by shoplifting.
Officers were dispatched to a retail store on Seventh Street in regard to a report of a shoplifter. As officers responded, they were advised that the person suspected of taking the items was running on Seventh Street and had thrown a bag into a nearby dumpster, Blair said.
An officer arrived and ob-served a person later identified as Gotcher running in the area. Gotcher was detained. Officers learned that Gotcher was the person observed taking items from within the store, Blair said. Police recovered a bag that had been inside a nearby dumpster. The bag contained items which were believed to have been taken from the store.
Gotcher was also in possession of other items from a drug store that were suspected to have been stolen, Blair said. Investigators determined that Gotcher had committed thefts from local retail and drug stores, Blair said. Additionally, Gotcher had an active warrant for her arrest. She was jailed.
—Jeremie A. Hanks, 38, of Morgan City, was arrested at 9:43 p.m. Thursday on warrants charging him with failure to appear for allowing dogs to roam and for contempt of court. Officers located Hanks near a business on La. 182 where he was arrested on warrants. Hanks was jailed.
—Joshua M. LaCoste, 41, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:53 p.m. Friday on the charge of simple battery.
Officers responded to a home on La. 182 in regard to a report of a battery on a juvenile. A description of the person involved was provided when officers located LaCoste, who told officers that he was involved in a disturbance with a juvenile, Blair said.
The victim, who had signs of a battery, alleged, along with a witness, that LaCoste had committed a battery on the juvenile, Blair said. LaCoste was jailed.
—Jerry Boyer, 71, of Morgan City, was arrested at 7:25 p.m. Friday on the charge of appearing in public in an intoxicated condition.
On officer was dispatched to the intersection of First and Freret streets in regard to a report of a subject sleeping on the ground near a tree. The officer arrived and located a person sleeping on the ground, identified as Boyer. The officer questioned Boyer, who appeared intoxicated. Boyer was jailed.
—Michael A. Bender, 42, of Cherry Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9 p.m. Friday on the charge of driving under suspension.
An officer was dispatched to the intersection of Egle Street at Federal Avenue in regard to a traffic crash. The officer located Bender, who was identified as the driver of one of the vehicles involved. Bender had a suspended driver’s license. Bender was jailed.
—Marvin C. Lorenzo-Soto, 25, of Barrow Street in Amelia, was arrested at 3:32 a.m. Saturday on the charges of hit and run, DWI and no driver’s license.
Officers responded to an address on Fifth Street in regard to a report of a hit and run crash. Officers determined that a vehicle had run off the roadway when it struck several parked vehicles and then fled the area. Officers located the suspect vehicle in the area moments later. The driver, Lorenzo-Soto, was suspected to have been drinking and appeared intoxicated, Blair said.
Lorenzo-Soto also did not have a valid driver’s license. Lorenzo-Soto was transported to the Morgan City Police Department for further chemical testing. Lorenzo-Soto submitted to the Intoxilyzer 5000 test yielding a blood alcohol concentration of 0.146 grams-percent. Lorenzo-Soto was jailed.
—Don T. Bennett Jr., 28, of Second Street in Patterson, was arrested at 7:09 p.m. Saturday on the charge of violation of a protective order.
An officer responded to a convenience store on La. 182 in regard to a subject violating a protective order. The officer located Bennett in the parking lot of the business who was identified as the person on the protective order.
The officer spoke with the affiant of the court order who provided a copy of the protective order which stated he was not to be within 200 feet of the affiant. Bennett was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Lennis Paray, 31, of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 3:10 p.m. Thursday on the charge of parole violation. Paray was transferred to parish jail in Centerville with no bail set.
—Jody Cubbedge, 58, of Bon Mange Circle in Lafayette, was arrested at 9:22 p.m. Thursday on the charges of driving under suspension, no turn signal and no insurance. Bail is set at $1,500.
—Eric Leleaux, 50, of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 3:40 p.m. Saturday on the charges of disturbing the peace intoxicated and possession of marijuana. Leleaux was transferred to parish jail with bail set at $2,500.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—George Favors III, 44, of the 100 block of Muggah Street in Patterson, was arrested at 3:59 p.m. Sunday on a warrant charging him with domestic abuse battery. No bail is set yet.
