Sheriff: Intoxicated woman tried to kick deputy

A 22-year-old Bayou L’Ourse woman was charged Thursday with resisting an officer after attempting to kick a sheriff’s deputy, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Dalaina M. Rentrop, 22, of the 300 block of La. 663 in Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested at 2:11 a.m. Thursday on the charges of disturbing the peace and resisting an officer. A deputy responded to a request to stand by while an Amelia business closed down.
While watching over the area, a deputy heard yelling in the parking lot and made contact with Rentrop. The deputy observed that Rentrop was highly intoxicated and that she was refusing to leave the area with a close relative who was attempting to provide a ride for her.
After several attempts by the deputy to get Rentrop home safely, she continued to cause a disturbance. During her arrest, Rentrop pulled away and attempted to kick the deputy. Rentrop was booked and released after posting $1,500 bail.
Hebert reported the fol-lowing arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Edward Robertson, 33, of the 100 block of McGill Court in Gibson, was arrested at 12:25 a.m. today on the charge of criminal damage to property. A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance on Village Lane in Amelia and made contact with Robertson.
After collecting statements and other evidence at the scene, the deputy determined that Robertson shattered the front windshield of a vehicle during an argument with a woman. Robertson was released on a summons to appear in court March 7.
—Joseph Saldivar, 22, of the 900 block of Florence Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:09 a.m. today on the charges of stop light violation and driving while intoxicated. A deputy travel-ing on La. 182 in Morgan City observed a vehicle drive through a red light at Federal Avenue and conducted a traffic stop.
The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Saldivar, and smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. The deputy conducted a field sobriety test on which Saldivar performed poorly. Saldivar later registered 0.103 grams percent blood alcohol concentration. Saldivar was jailed with no bail set.
—John May Jr., 26, of the 100 block of Janet Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 12:09 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of direct contempt, failure to use seatbelts, and failure to honor written promise to appear.
A deputy assigned to patrol Amelia knew May held an active warrant for his arrest and located him walking on Lake Palourde Road. During the arrest on the warrant, the deputy found marijuana separated into several small individual baggies. No bail is set.
—Terrence Matthews, 46, of the 5600 block of N. Bayou Black Road in Gibson, was arrested at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday on a stop sign violation, no insurance, and switched license plate. A deputy patrolling Amelia observed a vehicle run a stop sign before turning onto La. 182 and conducted a traffic stop.
During the stop, the deputy discovered that the license plate displayed on the vehicle did not match the description of the vehicle and that Matthews was driving without insurance. Matthews was released on a summons to appear in court March 7.
—Alan Sylvester, 30, of the 700 block of Versen Street in Berwick, was arrested at 3:20 p.m. Thursday on the charge of child desertion. A deputy responded to a report of a child wandering in the parking lot of St. Mary Plaza in Bayou Vista.
The deputy made contact with Sylvester and learned that he had brought the 2-year-old boy with him to go shopping with the permission of his mother. The deputy discovered that Sylvester left the child sleeping in a vehicle without adult supervision.
When the boy awoke, he exited the vehicle and began wandering around the area. Sylvester was jailed with bail set at $2,500. The child was returned to his mother.
—Willie D. Chaney, 48, of the 100 block of Hendricks Street in Patterson, was arrested at 11:57 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for simple assault and criminal trespass. A deputy investigating a complaint learned that Chaney entered the yard of a man and threatened him.
A deputy responding to a separate complaint on Hendricks Street made contact with Chaney and located the active warrant for his arrest. Chaney was later released after posting $1,250 bail.
—Jarvis Granger, 29, of the 1000 block of Joseph Street in Siracusa, was arrested at 12:27 a.m. Friday on the charge of disturbing the peace. A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance in progress in the area of Joseph and Grace streets.
While investigating the complaint, Granger began yelling at another person, causing a disturbance in the neighborhood. Granger was released on a summons to appear in court March 7.
—Varice Richardson, 22, of the 100 block of Friendship Alley in Amelia, was arrested at 7:26 a.m. Friday on the charges of possession of Schedule I marijuana, possession of Schedule II meth-amphetamine, and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of disturbing the peace fighting.
A deputy responding to a complaint of a disturbance on Friendship Alley made contact with Richardson and located the active warrant for his arrest. During his arrest, the deputy located marijuana and methamphetamine on him. No bail is set.
—Francisco Ramos Garcia, 53, of the 1400 block of Barrow Street in Amelia, was arrested at 10:20 a.m. Friday on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated. A deputy responding to a complaint of a suspicious person laying in a field on Chirpy’s Lane made contact with Garcia.
The deputy smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on Garcia’s breath. Garcia refused to cooperate with the deputy’s investigation into the complaint so Garcia was transported to the parish jail for booking. Garcia was later released on a summons to appear in court March 7.
—Travis Darby, 47, of the 500 block of Little Pines Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 8:16 p.m. Friday on the charge of domestic abuse battery. A deputy assigned to patrol Bayou Vista responded to a report of a domestic battery.
The deputy learned that Darby struck a woman in the face during an argument. Darby was booked and released after posting $2,500 bail.
—Gersson S. Viniegra, 31, of the 200 block of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:13 p.m. Friday on the charges of driving under suspension and speeding. A deputy observed a vehicle speeding on Main Street in Patterson near Catherine Street and conducted a traffic stop.
The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Viniegra. While speaking with him, the deputy learned that Viniegra’s driver’s license had been suspended. Viniegra was released on a summons to appear in court March 7.
—Chad Toups, 41, of the 100 block of Doris Street in Amelia, was arrested at 9:37 a.m. Saturday on the charge of burglary of an inhabited dwelling. A deputy investi-gating a residential burglary collected evidence indicating that Toups entered into a home and stole items from the resident. Toups was jailed with no bail set.
—Allen J. Jeanise, 58, of the 100 block of Malcolm Street in Schriever, was arrested at 6:18 p.m. Satur-day on the charges of remaining where forbidden, vagrancy, and disturbing the peace. A deputy responded to a complaint of a suspicious person staring at and attempting to fight customers at a business on La. 182 in Amelia.
The deputy made contact with a person matching the description of the suspect near the business on La. 182. The suspect was identified as Jeanise, who had been advised by deputies earlier in the day to leave the area. Jeanise was booked and released on a summons to appear in court March 7.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrest:
—George Harvey, 33, of Morgan City, was arrested at 1:49 p.m. Monday on the charge of disturbing the peace by fighting.
Officers were called to Egle Street due to a disturbance in the area. Officers located the victim and several witnesses. Officers learned that Harvey and another person began to argue during which time Harvey and another person began to fight, Blair said.
Harvey was jailed. The other person was taken to Teche Regional Medical Center, treated for minor injuries, and released. The investigation is ongoing.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
