Sheriff: Man intended to sell marijuana, had pills

A 37-year-old Berwick man was charged with intending to distribute marijuana and was found to be in possession of pills without a prescription after St. Mary Parish Sheriff detectives searched his home, Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Leonard Aucoin, 37, of the 1700 block of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 4:22 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a legend drug without a prescription (Zorvolex).
St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s narcotics detectives, with assistance from members of the Morgan City Police Department Narcotics Division and officers with the Berwick Police Department executed a search warrant at Aucoin’s home.
Detectives located a digital scale, a grinder, several legend drug pills and a large bag of marijuana. During the investigation, detectives found evidence that the drugs and items of paraphernalia belonged to Aucoin. He was booked into parish jail with no bail set.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 38 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrest in east St. Mary Parish:
—Deidre Lewis, 39, of the 1400 block of James Street in Siracusa, at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of disturbing the peace intoxicated and resisting an officer. A deputy responding to a disturbance at a home in Siracusa found evidence that Lewis had consumed several alcoholic beverages and was attempting to engage another person in a fight.
The deputy also heard Lewis yelling outside of the home. During Lewis’ arrest, she attempted to free herself by pulling away from the deputy. Lewis was booked into the parish jail with bail set at $1,500.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Shoney E. Massey, 39, of Vivian Street in Morgan City, at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws.
Officers responded to the parking lot of a medical facility on Marguerite Street in regards to a call of a subject lying on the ground next to a vehicle. The officers located a vehicle with an open door in the parking lot.
Witnesses told officers that they had observed a subject lying next to the vehicle and that the subject went into the medical facility. While speaking to witnesses, officers could see suspected drug paraphernalia from outside the vehicle. Morgan City Police Department Narcotics detectives were called to the scene and arrived moments later to assist with the investigation.
A search warrant for the vehicle was obtained and a search conducted when investigators located suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Investigators went inside the medical facility where they made contact with Massey. It was alleged that Massey had driven the vehicle and parked it in the facility parking lot.
The location of the incident was within the area of a local school in violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws. Massey was jailed.
—Annabel M. Garza, 22, of Egle Street in Morgan City, at 6:59 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of marijuana second offense, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper lane usage and speeding.
—Jalen D. Allen, 23, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, at 6:59 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of marijuana second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Narcotics division investigators observed a vehicle traveling east on U.S. 90 which appeared to be speeding. The investigators paced the vehicle at 85 mph, and the vehicle crossed out of its lane of travel. Officers conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Garza and the passenger as Allen. During the investigation, Garza and Allen’s behavior made investigators suspicious that they may be involved in illegal drug activity.
A search of the vehicle was conducted and investigators located suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Garza and Allen were jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Joey Perry, 35, of John Street in Berwick, at 7:53 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and on a 16th Judicial District Court warrant for failure to appear. No bail is set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
