Sheriff: Man tried to cash fake money order

A 35-year-old Patterson man was charged with monetary instrument abuse Friday after he allegedly gave a Morgan City business a fraudulent money order for over $1,000 in August, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Quentin Riley, 35, of the 1500 block of Plum Street in Patterson, was arrested at 2:22 p.m. Friday on a warrant for monetary instrument abuse and theft. A detective began an investigation into a complaint received from a business in Morgan City on Aug. 5. The detective learned that Riley gave the business a fraudulent money order for over $1,000, and a warrant was obtained for his arrest, Hebert said. Riley turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. He was released after posting $10,000 bail.
Hebert reported responding to 119 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Glen L. Rochel Jr., 32, of the 100 block of Laura Street in Patterson, at 7:59 p.m. Friday on the charge of criminal trespass. A deputy responding to a complaint of a trespasser causing a disturbance at a business on La. 182 in Bayou Vista located the suspect on Arcemont Lane. During the investigation, Rochel was positively identified as the person who repeatedly went to the business despite being told that he was not to return, Hebert said. Rochel was jailed and then released on $500 bail.
—William Pugh, 48, of the 100 block of West Syls Lane in Amelia, at 8:45 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of driving while intoxicated second offense, driving with a suspended license, and speeding. A deputy made contact with Pugh while patrolling Lake Palourde Road in Amelia and located the active warrant for his arrest. No bail is set.
—Luis Antonio Sanchez-Colora, 26, of the 800 block of Florida Street in Morgan City, at 3:16 a.m. Sunday for violation of the maximum speed law. A deputy on U.S. 90 in Berwick observed a vehicle traveling 98 miles per hour in a posted 55 mile per hour zone and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Sanchez-Colora. Following an investigation, Sanchez-Colora was released on a summons to appear in court Dec. 7.
—Ryan A. Billiot, 34, of the 100 block of Teche Road in Bayou Vista, at 9:28 a.m. Sunday on two warrants for failure to appear on the charges of criminal neglect of family. A deputy investigating an unrelated complaint made contact with Billiot at a residence in Patterson and located the two active warrants for his arrest. Bail is set at $42,147.39.
—Beverly A. George, 51, of the 100 block of Pain Drive in Thibodaux, at 7:54 p.m. Sunday on the charges of driving while intoxicated, improper lane usage, and open alcoholic container in motor vehicles. A deputy responding to a report of a reckless driver observed a vehicle cross over the centerline and fog line of U.S. 90 in the Patterson area.
The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as George. While speaking with George, the deputy smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath and observed that her speech was slurred. George performed poorly on the field sobriety test and later registered 0.229 grams-percent blood alcohol concentration on a breath test, Hebert said. No bail is set.
—Jason Fontenot, 28, of the 100 block of Rosewood Drive in Houma, at 1:14 a.m. today on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxication, remaining where forbidden, and simple battery. A deputy responded to a report of a subject who refused to leave a business in Amelia.
During the investigation, the deputy learned that Fontenot was told several times to leave the location, but refused to do so. Also, during the confrontation at the business, Fontenot pushed an employee. The deputy smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on Fontenot’s breath and person. As the deputy attempted to speak with him, Fontenot yelled and cursed causing a disturbance, Hebert said. Fontenot was jailed and then released after posting $1,500 bail.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Albizu D. Castro, 42, of Arenz Street in Morgan City, at 7:55 a.m. Friday on a warrant charging him with simple battery.
Castro was arrested at his home on a warrant stemming from an incident in which Castro allegedly went to a residence on Railroad Avenue and committed a battery on an individual, Blair said. Castro was jailed.
—Tagger Rosson, 18, of Dawn Drive in Morgan City, at 1:43 p.m. Friday on a warrant charging him with simple battery.
Rosson turned himself in to the Morgan City Police Department for an active warrant he held. The warrant stems from an incident in which Rosson allegedly committed a battery on a male juvenile in the area of the fair grounds of the Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival, Blair said. Rosson was booked and later released on bail.
—Rebecca A. Desormeaux, 53, of Cedar Street in Morgan City, at 2:26 a.m. Saturday on the charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Desormeaux was involved in a vehicle crash in the area of La. 182 near Florence Street. Upon explaining the events of the crash, the officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol on Desormeaux’s breath, Blair said. Desormeaux performed poorly on a field sobriety test, Blair said.
At the police department, Desormeaux registered 0.104 grams-percent of blood alcohol content on a chemical test for intoxication. Desormeaux was jailed.
—Timothy G. Francis, 28, of Greenwood Street in Morgan City, at 10:35 a.m. Saturday on the charges of domestic abuse battery second offense and resisting an officer.
—Natalie Branton, 31, of Greenwood Street in Morgan City, at 10:38 a.m. Saturday on the charge of domestic abuse battery second offense.
Officers were dispatched to a home on Greenwood Street in regards to a domestic disturbance. When officers arrived, they spoke to Branton. According to reports, Branton stated that she and her boyfriend, Francis, had gotten into a verbal altercation, which later turned physical, Blair said.
Branton stated that Francis had left the residence. Officers located Francis in the area of Kentucky Street and began to flee upon seeing officers, Blair said.
Francis was apprehended a short time later. Francis stated that he and Branton had gotten into a physical alteration at the home, Blair said. Both Francis and Branton was jailed.
—Kacy L. Norman, 30, of Plaquemine, at 3:01 p.m. Saturday on the charge of possession of Schedule II methamphetamine.
Officers were dispatched to the area of Levee Road and Federal Avenue in regards to a suspicious individual in the area involved in illegal drug activity. A description of the individual was given and officers located the woman identified as Norman in the area of Levee Road.
During the investigation, police located suspected methamphetamine in Norman’s possession, Blair said. Norman was jailed.
—Tyler A. Palmature, 18, of Willow Street in Morgan City, at 1:13 a.m. Sunday on the charges of underage driving while intoxicated and improper lane usage.
A patrol officer in the area of U.S. 70 near Fig Street observed a vehicle swerving in the roadway. The vehicle was stopped to investigate. The driver, Palmature, was asked to produce a valid driver’s license. While talking to the Palmature, the officer could smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on Palmature’s breath, Blair said.
Palmature performed poorly on a field sobriety test, Blair said. Once at the police department, Palmature registered 0.165 grams-percent blood alcohol content on a chemical test for intoxication. Palmature was jailed.
—Stephanie M. Harvey, 36, of Cane Street in Morgan City, at 11:29 a.m. Sunday on a warrant charging her with unauthorized use of an access card.
Harvey turned herself in to the Morgan City Police Department for an active warrant she held. The warrant stems from an incident in June during which Harvey allegedly made an unauthorized purchase on a debit card in the amount of $18.99, Blair said. Harvey was booked and later released on bail.
—Hilton Banks, 27, of Marrero, was arrested at 10:40 a.m. Sunday on the charges of driving under suspension and driving wrong way on a one-way roadway.
A patrol officer in the area of Federal Avenue and Bowman Street observed a vehicle traveling the wrong way on Federal Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, Banks, was found to have a suspended driver’s license, Blair said. Banks was jailed.
—Raul N. Ortiz, 53, of Bowman Street in Morgan City, at 1:35 p.m. Sunday on a warrant charging him with two counts of failure to appear.
Ortiz was located in the area of Elm and Sixth streets. Ortiz was found to have active warrants for the Sixth Ward City Court. Ortiz was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Ivory Dugar, 27, of the 1700 block of Kemper Street in Patterson, at 7:02 p.m. Friday on the charges of disturbing the peace intoxicated and disturbing the peace by language. Dugar was jailed on $540 bail.
—Ray Aucoin, 51, of the 1600 block of Chatsworth Drive in Morgan City, at 12:24 a.m. Sunday on the charges of suspended driver’s license and driving while intoxicated by refusal second offense.
Aucoin was jailed with no bail set.
—Tristen Hines, 18, of the 1300 block of Tarleton Street in Jeanerette, at 2:16 a.m. Sunday on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated. Hines was jailed on $323 bail.
—Vinnie Austin Jr., 21, of the 100 block of Blakesley Street in Franklin, at 2:55 p.m. Sunday on the charge of resisting an officer by flight, no driver’s license and no seat belt. Austin was released on $578 city fines.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Niki Freia, 32, of the 1100 block of Dora Street in Morgan City, at 11:42 a.m. Saturday on the charge of possession of marijuana second offense. Freia was released on $1,500 bail.
—Brandon Grant, 33, of the 2200 block of Johnson Drive in Berwick, at 8:36 p.m. Saturday on the charges of disturbing the peace 11th offense and resisting an officer. Grant was jailed on $645 bail.
Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire reported the following arrest relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Craig Albarado, 51, of Cremo Lane in Patterson, at 9:21 a.m. Sunday on a Third Ward City Court warrant for failure to appear on the charges of driving under suspension, switched license plate, failure to transfer registration and no insurance. Albarado was released on $500 bail.
