UPDATED: Morgan City man is murder suspect in Lafayette; authorities searching for him

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding a Morgan City man wanted for first-degree murder.
He’s wanted in connection with a Monday shooting in Lafayette that left one man dead and another in critical condition.
The suspect, Lawrence Lynel Blackburn, 37, whose last known address is Grace Street in Morgan City, is wanted on a Lafayette Police Department warrant charging him with first-degree murder. Blackburn is also known as “Kojak” and is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 210 pounds, according to Morgan City police.
He was last seen driving a 2008 Red Taurus SUV with Louisiana license plate YUU210, police said.
On Tuesday, the Morgan City Police Department received information regarding a homicide investigation being conducted by the Lafayette Police Department. During the investigation, a suspect, identified as Quentin J. Cooper, 25, of Poncio Street in Morgan City, was located by Morgan City police. During the Lafayette police investigation, Cooper was identified and arrested by Morgan City police on the Lafayette warrant charging him with principal to first-degree murder. Cooper was booked into the Morgan City jail and later transferred to the Lafayette Police Department.
Lafayette police also issued a warrant charging Blackburn with first-degree murder in connection with a shooting on Sunnyside Lane.
The victim was identified as Dravin Stevenson, 18, of Lafayette. The second victim, a 19-year-old man, remains hospitalized in critical condition, Lafayette police said.
On Monday, at about 4:10 p.m., Lafayette police responded to a shooting in the 300 block of Sunnyside Lane, a news release said. According to witnesses, about five people were inside when two men entered the home, Lafayette police said. For unknown reasons, the two men began shooting in the direction of the victims, police said.
Two of the victims were struck by the gunfire, and the men fled the residence in a red truck, police said. One of the victims, Stevenson, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, a 19 year-old man, was transported to an area hospital.

Police warn people not to approach Blackburn. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
