’Jills defeat Lady Gators

The Patterson Lumberjills outscored South Terrebonne in three of the four quarters en route to a 50-43 non-district win Tuesday.
Patterson led 11-8 after the first quarter, 26-18 after the second quarter, and 31-22 after three quarters.
Both teams had their best scoring output in the fourth quarter as South Terrebonne clipped Patterson in scoring for the quarter, 21-19.
Patterson’s Nakia Brooks, who led Patterson with 26 points, scored 16 of those in the fourth quarter. She also contributed eight rebounds.
Other top contributors included Galen Grogan, seven points and 18 rebounds; Jazmin Evans, eight points; and Kemprielle Williams, three points.
Patterson, which improves to 5-11 overall, will return to action Thursday when it travels to take on Morgan City in a 6 p.m. contest.
Morgan City picks up
road win
The Morgan City Lady Tigers picked up a 47-31 road win against Kaplan Tuesday.
Casey Chenevert nearly outscored Kaplan by herself as she finished the game with 25 points, including five 3-pointers.
Laqwajhia Bourgeois also reached double figures with 10 points, while Kaylyn Washington added eight and Meya Morse, four.
Morgan City either outscored or equaled Kaplan’s scoring output in every quarter as the Lady Tigers led 15-5 after the first quarter, 27-14 at halftime and 40-24 after three quarters.
Morgan City will return to action Thursday when it hosts Patterson.
Central Catholic defeats Highland Baptist
Central Catholic raced out to a 19-0 lead en route to a 51-19 win against Highland Baptist in District 7-1A action Tuesday in New Iberia.
After the big first quarter, the Lady Eagles outscored Highland Baptist 14-9 in the second period for a 33-9 halftime advantage.
Central Catholic led 42-14 after three quarters.
Randi Brown led Central Catholic with a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds as well as six steals, two assists and two blocks.
Meo Knight added 13 points, six steals, four rebounds and one assist, while other top contributors included Hanna McCue, four points and three rebounds; Rebecca David, two points and seven rebounds; Taylor Picou, three points and two rebounds; and Gee Garrett, two steals and five rebounds.
Central Catholic (14-2 overall, 2-0 in district) will return to action Friday when they host Vermilion Catholic (16-2, 3-0 in district) in a 6 p.m. contest in Morgan City. Vermilion Catholic is the defending state champion and ranked No. 3 in the state in the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings.
Central Catholic is ranked No. 1 in that list.
West St. Mary
beats Berwick
West St. Mary defeated Berwick, 58-15, in non-district action Tuesday in Baldwin.
The home team jumped out to a 22-2 lead after the first quarter and led 31-5 at the half.
Mickenzie Reed led Berwick with six points, while McKenzie Baumgartner added four.
Berwick (2-13) will return to action Friday when it faces Kaplan in a non-district contest set for a 6:15 p.m. tip.
