Berwick concludes an up- and-down season with a tough district game against E.D. White Friday in Thibodaux.
A week ago, Berwick (2-7, 1-2 District 9-3A) fell to District 9-3A front-runner Patterson.
Patterson pounced on the Panthers right away Friday en route to a convincing 61-21 win. Patterson converted four Berwick turnovers into points and a 40-14 halftime lead.
“Again we killed ourselves with turnovers,” Berwick head coach Craig Brodie said after the game. “I thought we moved the ball well offensively, but we continue to shoot ourselves in the foot with the turnovers.”
Berwick’s offense did have its moments. The Panthers mixed run and pass to setup a first-and-goal at the Patterson 9-yard line as time expired in the first quarter. Berwick capped the drive with an 11-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Jeremy Boudreaux to Audwin Williams. Boudreaux was 7-of-18 passing for 54 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. The senior has completed 48-of-110 passes for 569 yards with eight touchdowns and nine interceptions this season. He also has rushed 113 times for 365 yards and a touchdown.
Williams had four catches for 28 yards and a touchdown to lead the Panther’s receivers. The junior has 32 catches for 458 yards and four touchdowns, while Kenan Jones has six catches for 121 yards and three touchdowns.
Berwick struck again in the passing game Friday when Boudreaux hooked up with Jones for a beautiful 37-yard touchdown pass on a fade route with 1:23 left in the first half.
“We moved the ball pretty well, and it’s been a while since we scored 14 points against their starters,” Brodie said after the game. “We are getting better. The kids never gave up tonight, and that’s what I stressed to them going into this week’s game.”
Standout running back Braden Billiot had 24 carries for 82 yards and touchdown last week. The senior has rushed for 818 yards on 132 carries with seven scores this season.
E.D. White (6-3, 2-1) beat Assumption 32-12 last week in non-district action.
The Cardinals finished with 305 rushing yards. The team’s leading rusher was Nik Shanklin, who had 111 yards on seven carries. Jeremy Rounds recorded nine carries for 70 yards in the win.
E.D. White is second in District 9-3A behind Patterson. EDW can share the district title if it wins and Patterson’s loses to winless Franklin tonight.
The Berwick-E.D. White kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
