CCHS will open playoffs today
Central Catholic will begin postseason play today at 5 p.m. when it hosts Oberlin in Class 1A first-round action.
While the game originally was scheduled for Tuesday it had to be moved up a day.
The Lady Eagles enter the postseason as the No. 2 seed in Class 1A, having won 11 straight since a 5-2 loss to Kaplan in March.
The loss was one of just three this year for the Lady Eagles, who finished the regular season with a 24-3 mark.
Central Catholic’s three defeats were by a combined five runs to Catholic High-New Iberia (No. 8 in Class 2A), Rosepine (No. 4 in Class 2A) and Kaplan (No. 2 in Class 3A).
Among the weapons the Lady Eagles have include pitcher Megan Landry, a returning coaches and sports writers All-State Class 1A selection along with coaches all-state utility selection Brittany Longman. Central Catholic’s Kimberly Russo also was a first-team sports writers all-state selection as a utility selection.
Oberlin enters the postseason as the No. 31 seed. The squad finished 7-14 overall and 4-6 in District 4-1A.
Central Catholic head coach Joe Russo could not be reached for comment on today’s contest.
Today’s game will be broadcast on KBZE 105.9 FM and KFRA 1390 AM.
Admission will be $7.
