Centerville prevails over Northwood

CENTERVILLE _ No. 13 Centerville Lady Bulldogs opened their first-ever LHSAA Class 1A softball playoffs with an 11-7 victory over the No. 20 Northwood Lady Gators here Monday at Lady Bulldog Park.
Centerville’s Rylie Candella was the winning pitcher as she appeared in relief of starter Ashton Landry, who left the circle after one inning.
Candella worked six complete innings, giving up three hits with 11 walks and three strikeouts.
Landry started in the circle but developed a problem with her throwing shoulder after the first inning. She hurled one inning, giving up one hit, a walk while striking out two of the three batters she faced.
Top hitters for the Centerville Lady Bulldogs were: Ashton Landry, 4 for 4, double, 2 runs, 4 RBIs; Victoria Theriot, run; Grace LeBlanc, 1 for 3, RBI; Kennan Stelly, 2 runs; Robyn Romero, 2 for 4, run; Hailey McDaniel, run; Marlee Darden, 1 for 4, run; Rylie Candella, 2 for 3, 3 runs and Rachel LeBlanc - 2 for 4, 2 doubles, 3 RBIs.
Centerville will advance to the second round of the State Class 1-A playoffs later this week.
