Hornets defeat Pirates, 73-53
KAPLAN _ Three players scored in double digits, sending the Franklin Hornets to a 73-53 District 8-3A victory over the Kaplan Pirates here Tuesday at the KHS Gym.
FSHS outscored Kaplan in both the second and fourth quarters on the way to the easy victory. Kaplan opened with a 17-13 lead in the first quarter. Franklin quickly replaced a 17-13 deficit with a 34-28 cushion at the half thanks to a 21-12 burst. Kaplan managed to close the gap to 49-44 with a 16-15 edge at the end of the third period. Franklin enjoyed a 22-8 flurry in the fourth quarter to post the huge 73-53 triumph.
Kevin Ina led the Hornets in scoring with a game-high 27 points. Dwonyell Charles finished with 20 points while Justin Poledore contributed 15 points.
Other top scorers for the Hornets were: Tra’antray James, 6; LaDonte Tabor, 4 and Jarius Boyd, 1.
The Franklin Hornets will return to action next Tuesday when the Patterson Lumberjacks visit the FSHS Gym for a District 8-3A encounter.

Kaplan edges by Franklin
KAPLAN _ Kaplan High School’s Lady Pirates managed to slip past the Franklin Lady Hornets 43-38 here Tuesday at the KHS Gym.
Top scorers for the Franklin Lady Hornets were: Chardonnae Parker, 12 points, 4 field goals, 1-three pointer and 1 of 2 free throws; Quanta Jones, 12 points, 4 field goals, 1 3-point field goal and 1 of 6 freebies; Kaira Butler, 10 points, 5 floor shots and Aaliyah Smith and Jazmine Byers with 2 points each.
Rylie Frick led the Lady Pirates with 19 points followed by Tori Riggs with 10 points. Rounding out the scoring for Kaplan were: Lauren Touchet, 9 and Caroline Guidry with 5 points.
Franklin will host the Patterson Lady Lumberjills on Tuesday, January 26 beginning at 6 p.m. in district action.

Hanson Lady Tigers post a 49-29 victory
MORGAN CITY _ Casey Fitzgerald and Carli Pellerin scored in double figures, leading the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers to a 49-29 victory over the Central Catholic Lady Eagles here Tuesday in District 7-1A at the CCHS Gym.
Hanson outscored Central Catholic in every quarter, including a 10-7 lead in the opening period. At the half, the Lady Tigers held a 21-16 advantage. Hanson went on a 28-13 second half run to record the huge 49-29 triumph.
Fitzgerald led the Lady Tigers with 15 points on four treys, one deuce and 1 of 2 free throws. Pellerin poured in 13 points on four field goals, including one trey, along with 1 of 4 freebies with four rebounds and two assists and two steals.
Other top scorers for the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers were: Allyssa Young, 8; Baylee Young, 6 points, 8 rebounds, 6 blocks; Sarah Sonnier, 6 and Sarah Daniel, 1.

CCHS wins over Hanson
MORGAN CITY _ The Central Catholic Eagles claimed a 69-54 District 7-1A win over the Hanson Memorial Tigers here Tuesday at the CCHS Gym.
Bo Barrilleaux and Brennan Young led the Tigers with 11 points each. Other top scorers for Hanson Memorial were: Britt Young, 7; Josh Sanchez, 6; Clint Young, 6; Josh Luke, 6; Brian Sonnier, 5 and Robert Camors, 2.

LCA tops Centerville
CENTERVILLE _ Lafayette Christian Academy’s Lady Knights earned a 61-33 District 7-1A win over the Centerville Lady Bulldogs here Tuesday at the CHS Gym.
Rylie Candella poured in a team-high 14 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Hailey McDaniel added 7 points while Alyrria Austin and Ke’Naytra Kennedy tallied four points apiece to round out the top scorers for Centerville.
Lady Knight Ajia Robinson led all scorers with 15 points while Jeanne Fontenot finished with 9 points.
