Lady Eagles win two of three

Central Catholic won two of three softball games this weekend, defeating District 7-1A foes Highland Baptist Friday afternoon and Lafayette Christian Saturday morning in run-rule victories before falling to E.D. White Saturday afternoon in a nondistrict contest.
In Friday’s win against Highland Baptist, Central Catholic was victorious 13-0 in five innings, while on Saturday morning, the Lady Eagles knocked off Lafayette Christian 15-0 in four innings.
Saturday afternoon, E.D. White edged Central Catholic 2-1.
The loss to E.D. White snapped the Lady Eagles’ 11-game winning streak dating back to March 7, while it also was the first time Central Catholic had surrendered a run since a 6-1 defeat of Houma Christian on March 14.
Against E.D. White, Central Catholic scored a run in the top of the third inning on a solo home run by Bridgette Swan, while E.D. White plated a run in the bottom of the second.
E.D. White plated what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the third.
Central Catholic was limited to just three hits in the win.
Swan led the Lady Eagles with a 1-for-3 performance with a home run, an RBI and a run.
On the mound, Megan Landry surrendered two earned runs on four hits with one walk and fanned six in seven innings of work.
On Saturday morning, Central Catholic defeated Lafayette Christian in a makeup of a rainout from Thursday.
Central Catholic broke the game open in the fourth inning with a 10-run frame to end the contest via the 15-run mercy rule.
Central Catholic had entered the inning with a 5-0 lead after scoring a run in the first and two more each in the second and third innings.
Central Catholic recorded 13 hits in the win.
Jordan Morvant and Brittany Longman led the Lady Eagles offensively. Morvant finished 3-for-3 with a double and five RBIs, while Longman was 2-for-3 with a home run, an RBI, a stolen base and three runs.
Other top offensive contributors included Taylor Picou, 2-for-2, three RBIs and two runs; Kaitlyn Gros, 2-for-3, an RBI, two stolen bases and three runs; Swan, 2-for-3, two runs; Brooke Lipari, 1-for-2, an RBI and a run; and Megan Landry, 1-for-3, an RBI.
On the mound, Landry tossed a one-hitter with six strikeouts in four innings of work.
On Friday, Central Catholic pounded out 17 hits in the win against Highland Baptist, also a makeup game from an earlier season rainout.

The Lady Eagles had plated just one run in the first and added four more in the third for a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the frame.
Longman finished 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs, while Landry was 3-for-3 with three doubles and three RBIs to lead the Lady Eagles’ offense.
Other top offensive contributors were Lipari, who was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle with a 3-for-4 performance with a double, a triple, an RBI, three runs and a stolen base; Gros, 2-for-2, two stolen bases and two runs; Halley Romero, 2-for-2, an RBI and two runs; Picou, 2-for-3, a triple, two RBIs and a run; and Swan, 2-for-3, two RBIs and a run.
Central Catholic (15-2 overall, 5-0 in district) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Gueydan in a district doubleheader. The first game is set for a 3 p.m. start.
Berwick run-rules
Patterson
The Berwick Lady Panthers run-ruled Patterson 17-6 in six innings in District 9-3A action at Patterson Friday.
The Lady Panthers totaled 13 hits and 11 stolen bases, while Patterson committed 10 errors. Berwick had four miscues.
Patterson took its only lead in the bottom of the first.
After Berwick plated three runs in the top of the first, Patterson responded with four in the bottom of the frame.
From there, however, the Lady Panthers took the lead for good as they scored four runs in the top of the second, added three more in the fourth and four more in the fifth for a commanding 14-4 lead.
Patterson kept the game alive with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Berwick put the 10-run mercy rule into effect after six innings after plating three more runs in the top of the inning.
Sydney Aucoin led Berwick with a 3-for-5 performance with a double, four RBIs, a stolen base and three runs, while Shelby Bergeron was 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, three runs and two stolen bases.
Other top offensive contributors included Shannon Theriot, 3-for-4, four runs and three stolen bases; Rennen DeLatte, 2-for-3, a double, two RBIs and three runs; and Jordan Lipari, 1-for-5, three RBIs, four runs and two stolen bases.
On the mound, Rennen DeLatte pitched six innings and surrendered six runs on four hits with one walk, two hit batters and eight strikeouts.
For Patterson, Hailey Sehon was 1-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and a run.
Other top offensive contributors included Ashlynn Rock, 2-for-3, a double, two RBIs and a run; and Gaylen Grogan, 2-for-3, two singles and two runs.
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 3-0 in district and will host E.D. White Tuesday for the District 9-3A title.
E.D. White also enters the game with a 3-0 mark in district play.
However, first, Berwick (12-13) will return to action today when it travels to face Vandebilt Catholic in a 3:30 p.m. contest in Houma.
The Lady Panthers also have made an adjustment to their schedule as they have added a home contest against Catholic High-New Iberia on April 14 at 4:30 p.m. The game will serve as Senior Day.
