Lady Tigers tie, Tigers drop games to South Terrebonne

The Morgan City Lady Tigers tied 1-1 with South Terrebonne while the Tigers dropped their game 2-1 Tuesday.
The Morgan City High School soccer teams played their district openers Tuesday against South Terrebonne.
The Morgan City Lady Tigers went down 0-1 at the half against the South Terrebonne Lady Gators. The Lady Tigers managed to come back and tie the game in the second half on a goal by Sarah Patterson.
South Terrebonne kept the pressure up on Morgan City’s defense with some speed up top, Morgan City coach Trevor Patterson said.
The Lady Tigers’ offense had chances but could not get the ball past South Terrebonne’s goalie, who played very well for the Lady Gators and kept them in the game, Patterson said.
The Morgan City Tigers fell 2-1 to the South Terrebonne Gators, who scored their first goal on a breakaway when the Tigers’ backup goalie came out too far to give South Terrbonne a 1-0 lead at halftime, Patterson said.
In the second half, the Tigers possessed the ball more than the Gators, and Morgan City’s Irving Delgado managed to get a goal to tie the game at 1-1, Patterson said.
“We were on their half of the field for 80 percent of the second half, and we just couldn’t score,” Patterson said.
“The Gators had another breakaway, and once again our backup goalie came out too far for them to score.”
The goal secured a 2-1 win for South Terrebonne.
The Morgan City boys’ team is still not the same team that went to the finals at the Copa Cup, Patterson said.
“Not to take anything away from the Gators because they played very well, but we basically gave them the game,” Patterson said.
This past weekend, the Tigers finished 0-2-1 at the Carencro tournament, tying Carencro 1-1 and falling to New Iberia, 4-2, and C.E. Byrd, 2-0.
Against Carencro, Irving Delgado scored Morgan City’s goals, while he also netted both scores for Morgan City against New Iberia.
Patterson said his team was fatigued and banged up from playing five games at the Copa Cup the previous weekend as well as another game against Beau Chene during the week and their results this past weekend reflected as much.
Next, the Lady Tigers will travel this weekend to the St. Louis Showcase, and then both teams will resume play after Jan. 1.

Morgan City High boys’ soccer cracks Top 10

The Morgan City High School boys’ soccer team cracked the top 10 of the Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association Division II poll this week with a No. 10 ranking.
The Tigers, 5-3-2 as of Monday, received 58 votes.
A week ago, Morgan City was the top vote-getter outside the top 10.
Morgan City is one of three teams from District 7-II ranked in the top 10. Vandebilt Catholic leads the district with a No. 4 ranking while E.D. White is ranked No. 7.
East Jefferson is the top-ranked squad in Division II.
