Lady Tigers top Lumberjills 54-41

The Morgan City Lady Tigers remained undefeated with a 54-41 win against Patterson in girls basketball action Tuesday.
While Patterson led 7-4 after the first quarter, Morgan City outscored the home squad during the next three quarters.
Morgan City took a 19-15 lead at the half and after outscoring Patterson 13-7 in the third quarter, Morgan City led 32-22.
The Lady Tigers, led by first-year head coach Anthony Garrison, improved to 3-0 on the season with the win.
Casey Chenevert led the Lady Tigers with 28 points, while Kaylyn Washington also reached double figures with 11 points.
Other top contributors included Meya Morse, 6 points; Laqwajhia Bourgeois, 4; and Elicia Dorsey, 3.
Nakia Brooks recorded a double-double for Patterson with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Erykah Singleton had 6 points and 10 rebounds. Galen Grogan also scored 10 points for Patterson, while Jazmin Evans had 7 points.
Patterson is also led by a first-year coach, Tyler Olivier.
Patterson (0-3) will return to action when it participates in Westgate’s tournament, which begins today and continues through Saturday.
Morgan City will next hit the court Tuesday when it hosts Berwick at 6 p.m.
Central Catholic tops
West Jefferson
The Central Catholic Lady Eagles used a 19-10 fourth-quarter scoring advantage to pull away from West Jefferson, 50-37, in Morgan City Tuesday.
The Lady Eagles pulled away for the win after entering the fourth quarter with a just a 31-28 lead.
West Jefferson opened the game with a 13-12 lead after a quarter, while Central Catholic responded with a 16-5 second quarter advantage for a 28-18 halftime edge.
The visitors from the New Orleans area responded with a 9-3 scoring advantage in the third quarter before the Lady Eagles’ big fourth quarter.
Meo Knight led the Lady Eagles with 23 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 assist and 1 block, while Randi Brown added 20 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals.
Other top contributors included Gee Garrett, 4 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals; and Megan Landry, 3 points and 3 rebounds.
Central Catholic (2-0) will return to action when it participates in Westgate’s tournament, which begins today.
Morgan City boys fall
to Comeaux
Morgan City had a reunion of sorts Tuesday as the Tigers traveled to face Comeaux High School and former Morgan City coach Jeremy Whittington, who left Morgan City after this past school year for the job.
However, the Tigers, now led by head coach Scott Landry, had a rough outing as they fell 64-29.
No individual stats were available.
Morgan City (0-6) will return to action Thursday when it faces Terrebonne at Terrebonne’s tournament.
