Landry throws 2nd perfect game in 3 days

Megan Landry threw her second perfect game in three days and the Central Catholic Lady Eagles finished 3-0 at the Central Catholic Softball Tournament this past weekend.
Landry, who already had tossed a no-hitter against Highland Baptist in a 16-0 four-inning win Thursday, completed the feat again Saturday in another 16-0 four-inning win against St. Martinville.
On Saturday, Landry recorded 10 of the game’s 12 outs via strikeouts. She pitches four innings and didn’t allow a hit, run or walk. She recorded another out via a pop up, while the game’s other out came via a fly out to Gee Garrett in centerfield.
Landry nearly recorded another perfect game on Friday in a 4-1 win against Ellender, but the Lady Patriots scored a run in the top of the seventh inning.
For the weekend, the Lady Eagles outscored Ellender, South Lafourche and St. Martinville with a combined 35-1.
“I’m very proud of my team’s ability to adjust to situations that are contributing to our success,” Central Catholic coach Joe Russo said.
Russo said he also was proud of Kimberly Russo, for receiving the Edna F. Michel Sportsmanship Award at the tournament.
In Saturday’s win against St. Martinville, the Lady Eagles scored in every inning, taking a 4-0 lead after an inning and adding two more in the second, four in the third before ending the game with six runs in the bottom of the fourth.
At the plate, Bridgette Swan led the Lady Eagles with a 4-for-4 performance with three RBIs, a stolen base and two runs, while Kaitlyn Gros was 3-for-3 with an RBI, three stolen bases and four runs. Other top contributors included Landry, 2-for-3, two RBIs; Brooke Lipari, 2-for-3, a double and a run; Hailey Romero, 2-for-3, two stolen bases and two runs; Russo, 1-for-1, an RBI and a run; Brittany Longman, 1-for-3, two RBIs and a run; and Garrett, 1-for-3, an RBI and a run.
Earlier Saturday, Central Catholic run-ruled South Lafourche 15-0 in three innings.
Central Catholic took a 10-0 lead after the first inning and plated three runs in the second inning and two more in the third.
The Lady Eagles’ duo of Longman and Swan combined for a no-hitter in the shutout. Longman, who earned the win, surrendered no walks in an inning of work.
In two innings of relief, Swan fanned two and didn’t walk anyone.
At the plate, Swan finished 1-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs and a run, while Longman was 1-for-2 with a triple and four RBIs. Other top contributors included Emma Aucoin, 2-for-2, a stolen base and a run; Lipari, 1-for-1, a double, an RBI and a run; Alli Comeaux, 1-for-2, a double and two RBIs; and Gros, 1-for-2, an RBI and two runs.
Against Ellender, Landry pitched a complete game and fanned 17. She surrendered an earned run on three hits in the victory.
Central Catholic never trailed, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth and extending it to 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth. Ellender scored a run in its final at bat.
Garrett led the Lady Eagles with a 2-for-2 performance with a home run, a double and a run, while Russo and Longman each were 2-for-3.
Central Catholic (8-2) will return to action Monday when it travels to take on Ellender in a 3:30 p.m. contest in Houma.
Morgan City finishes 2-1
at St. Amant tourney
The Morgan City Lady Tigers finished the weekend 2-1 at St. Amant’s tournament with wins against Terrebonne and H.L. Bourgeois while falling to Beau Chene in a pitcher’s duel.
Against Terrebonne, the Lady Tigers won 10-6.
Morgan City rallied from a 5-4 deficit with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Terrebonne managed just a run in its final at bat.
Morgan City had taken a 1-0 lead in the first inning, while Terrebonne knotted the score at 1 in the fourth. The Lady Tigers again took the lead at 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning before Terrebonne briefly reclaimed it in the top of the sixth.
Morgan Comeaux led the Lady Tigers with a 2-for-4 performance with a double and an RBI, while Marilynn Bailey finished 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Other top contributors included Brandi Ingram, 1-for-2, an RBI, a stolen base and two runs; and Aliya Green 1-for-3, two runs and an RBI.
Tyler Hebert earned the complete-game victory. In seven innings, she surrendered six runs — one earned — on seven hits with three walks and fanned four.
Morgan City committed five errors, while Terrebonne had four miscues in the loss.
The Lady Tigers dropped their second game of the tournament to Beau Chene 1-0.
Beau Chene scored the game’s lone run, which was unearned, in the third inning.
While Morgan City had runners in scoring position, they could not get them home.
Hebert took the loss, pitching a complete game and surrendering an unearned run on three hits with two walks and fanning five.

In their tournament finale, the Lady Tigers knocked off H.L. Bourgeois 5-1.
All of the scoring came in the fifth inning as H.L. Bourgeois plated a run in the top of the fifth, while Morgan City responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame.
Ingram led the Lady Tigers with a 2-for-3 performance with a double, an RBI and a run, while Comeaux was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Hannah Gros, 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Hebert earned the complete-game victory. In seven innings, she surrendered an unearned run on four hits with three walks and fanned four.
Morgan City (9-5) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face South Terrebonne in a District 7-4A contest set for 4 p.m. start.
Patterson wins two
this weekend
The Patterson Lumberjills finished the weekend 2-1 at the Bayou Plaquemine Classic with wins against St. James and St. Michael the Archangel after falling to St. John in its tournament opener.
On Friday, Patterson fell to St. John 14-10.
The Lumberjills responded Saturday with a run-rule victory against St. James, 15-0, in three innings, and a 10-7 win against St. Michael.
No individual statistics were available.
Patterson (7-2) will return to action Tuesday when it opens District 9-3A play at E.D. White in a 4 p.m. contest.
Berwick finishes 0-3 at Parkview tourney
The Berwick Lady Panthers finished the weekend 0-3 at Parkview Baptist’s tournament.
On Friday, the Lady Panthers fell to North Vermilion 10-0, while on Saturday, Catholic High edged Berwick 8-7, before the Lady Panthers fell to Kaplan 11-1.
No individual stats were available from any of the contests.
Berwick (4-8) will return to action Tuesday when it opens District 9-3A action against Donaldsonville, which the Lady Panthers will host in a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
